Operation Golden Garden 2014: Let's Get Started!

**Instead of starting an entirely new GLOG, I decided to tack 2014 on to the end of this one. So if you have already went through 2013's grow, just jump ahead to page 40.**

Before you go on, I would recommend you grab a beer or something else stiff to drink.  If you didnt follow my grow last time around, I have the tendency to go on, and on, and on, and on.  Also, I may not be the most "PC" out of the group, so if you are looking for clean language, on topic discussion, and general 'niceness', I am sure that I can point you in the right direction.

Ok, now that we got that out of the way....I AM STARTING A FREAKIN GROW LOG!  A quick bit of back story. Since I spent more time in high school partying than studying, I didn't have much of a choice following graduation. I decided to enlist in the Marines (there really isnt another choice) and now here I am 8 years and 5 deployments later.  This last go around I left the first few days of September and just got back yesterday (9 months for all the other 'non studying' folk).  As most of you know, if you want some bangin pepper plants, you need to start early, and May 25th aint early.  So right before I left I cut everything back and prayed to the pepper gods that my plants would make it through winter so I could have something to come home to.  Up until yesterday I thought that they were just taking time to put on some green, but when I walked through the fence to see my dogs, a ritual that I typically do after every deployment, I realized that the plants were not there and instead was four trays of new plants just waiting for planting.

Note:  IPhones are not the world's leading video recording devices.  And as a result, I may not be easily heard.  Dont worry, I didn't have much to say initially anyways, I was just a bit more surprised than anything.

For someone who seems to always talk a bit too much, I didnt have much to say initially.  I was freaking out inside and didnt know if my wife got them or what.  When she told me that the guys from THP did it, i was blown away.  You gotta understand, over the past 9 months Bill (RocketMan) organized a "Operation Hot Sauce" care package rotation for me and my guys.  A bunch of members here chipped in and sent packages of sauces, powders, peppers, and other treats to help make this deployment a bit more enjoyable.  To hear that they ALSO chipped in and GAVE ME A GROWING SEASON pretty much put me over the edge.  I know that I already messaged you guys but I wanna thank RocketMan, Coheed196, Romy6, KingDenniz, Silver_Surfer, STC3248, DesertChris, Sanarda, MuskyMojo, Pulpeteer, WalkGood, DocNRock. Stickman, Annie57, Pic 1, Pr0digal_Son, Jamison, Spicy Chicken, HighHalt, Fremp, SethSquach, 3/5 King, Patrick, Bigoldude again for helping make this happen for me.  And although giving me a garden was WAY MORE THAN ENOUGH, they also gave me a little sumpin sumpin that will help out picking up the last minute things that I need to make sure I have everything I need for the season!

So this morning, I got up early because I am still on Afghanistan time, cooked breakfast, and then after the family ate we went out to the garden to plant everything.

Why as a matter of fact i do...

Wow! That is perfect. That's a keeper. I'll probably want seeds from that beauty. The purple is quite dominate. I bet the pod will look awesome. If it turns out to grow good pods (I honestly can't imagine it failing at that--all 3 varieties taste good imo), I'd love to spread it like the 7JPN. It's good because we will get a larger selection with more people growing em. I'm going to grow out a bunch of seedlings to see if I get a dark purple one. If I also get one, we can have two different lineages (ex. (7JPN)TSM -Matt)

Purdy purple peppers.  I remember there was a search for a truly black true superhot... I wonder if anyone is still trying for this?  Probably someone at aispes I'd imagine...

The (7 Pot Jonah x Pimenta de Neyde) x Trinidad Scorpion Moruga that Matt has growing should be superhot and very purple! I thought I'd have to backcross it to get that level of purple!  I'm working on purple peppers for fun. I'm also sharing them openly with the THP community. It's a group effort :) . Only a few got the (7 pot Jonah x Pimenta de Neyde) x Trinidad Scorpion Moruga, because I was only able to get 1 cross last year. I used the Moruga plant as the female to know right away that it crossed properly (from the purpling). We should start seeing a lot interesting purple chinese from these crosses. Some are doing backcrosses too :) .

Nice score on the potting soil, and love the pic of the PdN cross! I've got one that looks very similar from Meatfreak, but he's not quite sure what the PdN crossed with... :P

Thanks Charles. The Morango cross and Rocoto X are also purple. I think I have a half dozen or so purple plants. They are definitely my favorites. I think Chris (CMPMAN) is looking for that black super. These are pretty dark, but not black-dark.

i am hopin it turns out great. I only have one of those, and i will definitely be babying it in hopes it turns out great. Ill make sure to get plenty of seeds from it, hopefuly the pods are gnarly. The only thing that could make it any more badass would be some striping.

Thanks. I potted up into them 2 weeks ago and they really love it. Those PdN crosses are freakin great.

Alright, i am in for my yearly update.....

So I pulled everything out of the Sunshine #4 and potted up into Promix. I also pulled the plants that were in the big pots and replanted into the Promix. Part of it was my fault, i was definitely overwatering, but the soil just didnt drain and started turning green. I am bottom watering now, and waiting to see obvious signs that they need water.

I worked a couple days straight and didnt get a chance to check the plants. I lost about 20 in the jiffy plugs because they dried out, but I managed to save a couple. Now that everything is potted up, I have right at 100 in the tent.  Here are a few snaps.

These are one of the baby trays. Bottom left is the PN7J X TSMB, the one above it is a PN7J, and next to that is a PN X Purple Bhut.

Another couple trays with some babies.

Looking good Matt! And I like the tent setup.

Looks like you're right on schedule.

Keep it green!

Plants look great Matt, sorry to hear about the ones that dried out and didn't make it. That happens to the best of us, just like over watering. I lost a couple plants due to over watering too. It happens.

I hear ya on the busy-ness bro'. Round 2 looks healthy and ready to go in the dirt... how much longer 'til that happens?

What's up Matt, hope those babies are getting big. You should be moving up on plant out pretty soon. you planning on tiling the whole thing up or just working it all over with a fork and spade?

Oh, was that Douglah version of the Flaming Pumpkin hot enough for ya ;)

I'll have one of whatever's in your glass, Glen what?

Nice grow going there, buddy!  Good luck going forward!

In 2012, you sent me some pods, and this year, I started seeds saved from two of them.

Thought you might like to see what they produced!  Pretty healthy specimens, except the Indian Carbon
had it's top growth retarded for some reason, so it is a bushy sucker!  Anyway, thanks, bro!

Hope you get time to update this Glog soon. Good to see you're putting your family and work first, but we miss you. I'm about to start posting some of your pics from last year, just to liven things up a little.

So, im alive and things are going well. I have been swamped with work, just spent a month in California, family stuff, and trying to sell the house. So I haven't had the chance to really post here. I have been posting some pics here and there on FB (capsicum worldwide), but really haven't kept up the GLOG like I thought I was going to.

Overall things are looking great. I managed to plant out about 60, and then another monstrosity I call the Bhutlah Bin. I came home from 30 days on the west coast to my garden OVERFLOWING with weeds, and only managed to lose one or two plants. The good news is most of the plants have pods hanging off them. Here's a few pics of the now hotness!
