ordering hot sauces online - exp. dates

I was wondering if any of you here, that order hot sauces online, ever had a problem with recieving alot of hot sauces that are ready to expire or are past their expiration date, in short - old sauces.

Haven't done the online thing for a while but No I've never rec'd anything that was past it's prime.

Note however that I keep opened hot sauces in the fridge and use regularly nothing sits around for a couple years.

i use hot sauces way past the expiry date and never noticed any problems. I haven't come across any that I've ordered that are past the date, but sometimes they'll sit on my shelf unopened for a while. but once they're opened and in the fridge I don't leave them in there for too long.

I don't worry about expiry dates too much. they're not like milk or sour cream.

+1 on the expiration date not mattering too much. If it's past a year I wouldn't use it though and also it depends on the ingredients of the sauce (fruit, clam juice, cheese, etc). Legally (in the US) companies can not sell expired product. I would send them back.

At the sauce store I work for we get the occasional sauces shipped to us that are expired. Some companies are more prone to it than others I've noticed.

Too add to this, I rarely even see a date on a bottle.

Sauces

I don't think that any company should be sending out products past it's expiration date.

In saying that I have received a few shipments of sauce without any indication of a use by date.

I wouldn't worry too much about it though, I have had some sauces in the fridge for ages which still seem!

It's the same here in Sweden. Even items like vacuum sealed products like coffe that basically can't go bad have an expiration date after which it can't be sold.

I might seem really old now, but young people nowadays are really stupid. For example - I have friends who throw milk (and other products) away because the expiration date on the carton has passed. Does it smell OK? Look OK? Taste OK? Eat it!

But if I pay full price I expect a fresh product.

would you mind sharing those companies names that like to send old product out ? think of it as doing a review about their hot sauces or customer service, if they dont have a problem to constantly sending out old product...well... then shouldnt people have the right to know this ?
if people dont care well then it wont affect them, if people would like fresh product then those companies will come to realize to stop sending old product!

BTW what do you do with those old products that you recieve ? -look at below post ;)

I have seen this too, sometimes it doesnt bother me, but then some brands it'll make you wonder how old it is, or do people scratch off the date ?

Irony, since ppl pay a lot for really old Blairs....

these people are buying them for collectors reasons not consuming the hot sauce, which is a different subject.

I agree 100%!!!
thats why I'm asking this, if I buy something I dont want to see product thats expired or will expire within a couple months, or the color of the product might be questionable.

Wish I could but that would be reveiling the sources we buy at and the boss told me a long time ago not to do that.

Alot of the times the company will put the label over the expiration date. Seen that alot!

label ? do you mean the price tag ? cuz I wouldnt think a company would put their own label over the expiration date. or i can be wrong.

We have two types of expiry dates here:

Use By: can't be sold after this date

Best Before: can be sold after this date, but some changes in appearance, texture or flavour may occur.

There are supermarkets here that specialise in selling past date foods at discount prices....
