It doesn't matter what the plant's name is; it only matters how it tastes/looks/grows (and of course, burns).
 
Names and history is nice, but it only says so much.

I'm not trying to name some new pepper to put out there, just for my own record keeping.  Obviously, because it's not stable, and who knows what will come of it next year.  So for now, I just labeled my seeds "Peach Wasp - Red Cross."  I assume they would be F2, as I saved seeds from a Peach Wasp pod.  And I'm guessing it's a cross and not a natural variant, because I would assume that red would be dominant over peach for color, so there would have been no recessive red genes to begin with.

Beekeeper / remover friend was just complaining hat they cot called on bee removal and found wasps.  Maybe they are yours and you bot bees.
 
This thread reminds i&i that we have more landraces and conventional strains than any one of us can handle. We, as a community, keep churning out these unstable BS crosses and act surprised when shit is unstable or otherwise shitty. Let's stop the nonsense, or at least slow it down . the Douglah may well be a real deal Seven but all these designer Girl Scout Cookie versions of Bhutlahs are kinda questionable

Hmm, I was searching around for a red wasp pepper, after these peach grew untrue, but couldn't find anything. Where'd you get your seeds? And what do they look like?
 
I dunno maybe adopt a color system:
 
Green=1-400000 shu
yellow=400000-800000 shu
red is anything above 800000 shu

THP should start a committee for the reviewing of truly new strains. I can think of a few good choices to sit on that round table: hogleg, ajdrew, mpicante, bossman, capcom, sirex, judy, the guy from the shu testing lab in las cruces, salsalady, cmpman1974, spicefreak, ect. Too many to list. First and foremost what two strains were the parents, and of course f5 status.
 
Call it the round table of badassery. Your pepper has been judged, and weighed, and we deem it flimflammery sir and or madam. Hope I don't get a warning point for saying assery..

Topic comes up a bit and I am usually the odd man out on opinion.  I kind of enjoy the challenges and surprises.  Its is kind of like road trips and where to eat.  Some folk go right for the McDonalds or other known food served in known proportions.  I really like eating at the Mom and Pops even though sometimes it is horrible.

Certainly the disappointments suck, but that kind of adds to the sense of challenge.

I totally understand that POV, and I respect folks who enjoy making crosses, or following an unintended cross for a few generations, to see what comes of it.  That´s cool, especially when it´s deliberate and/or basically understood by the grower in question.  Too often, though, we see ¨new strains¨ being promoted at F1, and we have likely crosses being touted as random mutations, and we have a lot of discussions about the actual origins of these strains where, if we´re being honest, even the ppl in the best position to know the origins haven´t got a clue what they did to get the ball rollin´ on their new strain.  
 
Sloppy guesswork can be fun, and it´s ever been a big part of my life, but it´s bound to bring about disappointments, especially if the sloppy guesswork is being passed off as some sort of psuedo-scientific methodology.

I have to find my list as to where I got mine. A trade for sure. As far as images, I can't seem to unlock the mystical way to post pictures here. I've copied links, I've done all it says and yet still I can't share pics. I have them on my FB page, of course.

Yep. I've done that. I have images on Photobucket as well as Flickr and everytime I do that THP tells me that my "host is not supported". Oh well, I'm close to just buying a better membership anyway!

If the seller is honest, that makes me think of buying a lawnmower from Craigslist that says it is "for parts".  But I do understand and agree with what you are saying.  I think what happens is something odd pops up in someone's garden (doesnt it always) and the grower has no clue about growing a pepper out.  So s/he starts promoting it.  Even though seller says it just popped up in his garden, buyer are also unaware of the need to grow something out.  It is sometimes maddening.  More so when they give the thing a name before anyone even knows what it will wind up looking like.

Oh but on the other hand, I buy F1 seed every year.  No other way to grow seedless watermelon.  At least I think that is how they make seeds for seedless anything.  Point being if you know what you are buying and the seller knows what he is selling, i think all can be good.

I agree 100%; it´s good for everyone, so long as everyone knows what theyŕe buying and, just as important, what they´re selling.  OTOH, buying a roached mower for parts on CL falls somewhere in the realm of ¨common knowledge;¨ the typical folks in my neighborhood have the common sense to see something like that for what it is.  On the other hand, genetics seem to be poorly understood by most folks I run into, and familiarity of these esoteric chile plants and the arcane techniques used to stabilize a given strain-- that kind of knowledge is far from common.  
 
In the end, though, is it really a big deal if unwary buyers are buying unstable crosses of undetermined parents, when it seems like every third guy who bought Reaper plants at the nursery or Reaper seeds off of eBay ends up growing Red Habs?  In the end, this is a hobby that is rife with pitfalls and crapshoots; luckily, for most of us, the stakes are low.  If the pepper I tried to grow ends up being something different, it´s no big deal.  I´m GONNA eat it anyway.  I just like to promote honesty and, wherever possible, clarity.
