I'm curious how many capsicum pubescens growers in northern climes over winter there plant's

And how the get on

Do they see any great advantage

After my 2023 Capsicum pubescens Scottish trial I only grew "Rocoto long" this year I'm planning on over wintering them currently they have been moved into the greenhouse to ripen up.

How beneficial do you find over wintering capsicum pubescens............

Hey @Englander I can't answer that for you -yet- but am planning on doing so this winter. At this point I'm considering overwintering all three types that I have, because I really want to see what they can do in their second year. I've read that they can grow ridiculously large in year two, some people report them growing 10+ feet tall and loaded with fruit. The plan is to up-pot mine to a 10 gallon grow bag with heavy compost and wrap in fencing as you do.

Regarding the overwinter approach, I have a general plan in place but not every detail ironed out. One of the biggest obstacles that I'm anticipating having to work around are aphids (and other potential pests). Therefore, I'm going to keep them isolated either in a garage or in our glassed-in sunporch and completely out of the downstairs area of the house so that aphids don't spread to my spring seedlings. I'll have more to report next year, and am looking forward to seeing how your plant does in the second year as well! Go for it and keep us posted!
