recipe-help Pasta sauce recipe?

Marcella Hazen was always famous for her tomato sauce, but I am a purist & always poo-pooed it. Until I decided to see what everyone was raving about. It has amazing flavor. Really simple, too. Four ingredients. Two cups canned tomatoes, 5 T. butter, a peeled, whole onion (halved), and salt. When all I have are canned tomatoes, this is my go-to sauce. Throw it all in a sauce pan and 45 minutes later, you have fabulous sauce.
 
I heard something about unsalted butter being better quality butter and they use the lower grade stuff to make the salted butter... COuld be b.s. though.
