I'd think with you coastal types and the copious amounts of precip indigenous to the northwest, you guys greatest foes would be molds and fungi....

Gawd, I love this site! See all those $300 words? I NEVER get to use those on other forums!!

About time for me to get things going as well. Basically just need to get my but in gear. Looking good on your end so far.

actually, i have to battle aphids non stop every year,,, that sometghing that drives me insane... i wish i knew how i could get rid of those lil pesky bastards..... I try to be as organic as possible when i do the soap and water , it affects the foliage of the chilies to much , so i do them by hand... not happy about it , but it kinda is what it is

look into Neem oil spray. Bhut, if one thing makes me stray from 100% organic it's the damned aphids. I'll give all the organic methods a try, if they fail, ones got to do what they have to so they don't lose the whole deal.

Look out for the ants that mine those nasties, and kill them ;)

Thanks, buddy!  Sounds like you have some experience
with the peruvians!  One of our good friends is Peruvian,
and I give her lots of Aji Amarillo and Rocoto pods.  We
get awesome food in return!

Yuk!
good on ya for fighting the good fight.
I agree with Scott's (Devv) post on the next
page.  Neem has worked well for me if
you get the jump on 'em!

You are not prevaricating, mon ami!  An ample vocabulary should
be exercised at every appropriate opportunity.  Especially with
chiliheads!

That being said, during the Spring and late Fall, you are absolutely
correct.  At least in my area, the summers are relatively pest-and-fungi-free,
if you are proactive, and vigilant.

You're right as rain, my friend.  No time
like the present!  So far so good,  about 16%
there after 9 days...Good luck getting it in gear!

Good advice, Scottie!  I'd add that a good brand of insecticidal
soap alternated with the Neem applications can be pretty effective.
Best to get on 'em early and hard to avoid problems later!

Glad you are staying warm - you have had some cold weather!

Eleven more in the bag.  I started with 54 cells of Jiffy Pellets,
and have room for 32 plants in this part of the grow.  Have 20,
so far.

Today's victims
3 Rocoto, red - my seed, 2nd gen. peruvian seed.
2 Fatali, yellow - Pepper Joe 2016
1 Aji Lemon Drop - Tradewinds - now have three plants for Growdown if all make it.
1 PDN x Bonda Ma Jacques - F5 iteration of Tristen's cross from Australia.  Real winner!
1 MoA Bonnet - John at Trident Chilis, 2016
1 Scorpion, yellow - my seed, 5th gen.
2 Orange Manzano - my seed from 2015 season, 4th gen.

Thank your stars for a covered pergola. Folks around here leave 'em open, let the vines have their way, then call me to paint the damned things.

Beautiful setup, Paul! Grow well.

Looking good.
Severe case of germination envy over here. It is a great time of any season.
Thank you, Jacques.  I guess your season is in it's second half, now.
The southern hemisphere grows keep me motivated during our winters;
I hope yours is a great one.  Things have slowed down in my germination
chambers, only two new ones yesterday, a Red Habanero and a Fatali.

Nice clean lighting set up...looks like you're having great success.

Looking great Paul...lovin all the snow we have currently, great pics.
Much appreciated, buddy.  The varieties that are sprouting are doing well.
Some disappointments, so far; ones I would have expected to do well,
like Caribbean Red Habanero from the Chili Pepper Institute at New
Mexico State, and the F5 PDN x Bonda Ma Jacques.  May have to resort
to the AeroGarden for some more attempts, if these don't pull through in
another week.  The BOC from Refining Fire haven't come through, yet, either.

This has been a year for the books weather-wise, for sure.  I think this is the
biggest single snow fall we've had in our neighborhood in 27 years, although
several have come close.  We had 6-8" in our yard, more in some places.

Thanks, Eric.  We love the covered deck space.  The next step is to
enclose it so it is a real room in the winter, and can be opened up
in the rest of the year.  We're looking at flexible roll-up type walls and
more permanent framed construction.  I'd like to make it a real hip roof
joined to our regular roof rather than just the canopy sitting on the roof.

Good and early start Paul. Congrats on them first sprouts and good luck further on. Will follow as usual. Love the cups pics with the snow behind :)
Hey, Uros!  So far, so good.  Some varieties aren't popping
for me, but the ones that have look good.  It was pretty
amazing to wake up to a snow-covered yard the other morning.
Usually we just get an inch or so at a time.

Looking forward to seeing your grow develop this season, as well, my friend!

Looking good Paul, great start there, should see a good variety and haul from that lot :)
Thanks for the good vibe, James.  It's always a waiting game
this time of season.  Really excited for the MoA Bonnets from
John at Trident Chilis.  Hope you are having fun at your end...

Off to a great start, beautiful yard you have. I've been meaning to cover my pergola with some shade cloth or something. I like what you did with yours though.
Thanks for visiting, Michael, and for the positivity!  The canopy is nice, but
as I said above, the space needs some walls to keep the windy and rainy
weather out in the winter. Still exploring options there.

Having fun with your crossing projects?  You have some great ones going.

Wow I practically live in my backyard when I'm home so I don't think I'd be able to deal with snow like that !!

Nice list, would like to see how they grow out for you. Good luck.
Me, too, Jason!  Fortunately it will be all gone when it warms
up and starts raining in a couple of days!  Then it will be so soggy
it will be impossible to walk around in the yard until Spring.  The
grass gets pretty long by the time it dries out enough to mow!

What is growing looks pretty good; hopefully they will all make
it to plantout time in May/June.  Seems like a long way off at
this point!

Good luck going forward in OZ!

So far, so good!

You got some snow indeed!
Here some too, but less than your place. I need some more in mountains, i hope before february. :D

Hey, Giancarlo - Thanks.  No kidding, snow's still around, too since the temperatures haven't
really been above freezing since it snowed.  The warming trend is supposed to come Sunday/Monday,
although today is beautiful and sunny.  And cold!

My germination rates this season are miserable.

What has sprouted looks promising, and I'll give it the rest another week.
Going to restart some BOC, though, from 2013,
from some seed GeorgiaGrowhead sent me awhile back.  Maybe a
Chocolate Habanero, too, from Refining Fire.  But, I digress   ;)

Have put the Manzano / Rocoto sprouts under the cooler lamp of the
AeroGarden.  I always forget they don't respond well to the T5HO
lamps until I finally notice it!  Will post a pic momentarily...
