Seeds in the distilled water soak tonight,
into Jiffy Pellets tomorrow... Happy New
Year!

IMG_4606.JPG

Seeds started 01/01/2017:
JA Red Habanero (CPI and self-selected) - 3
Fatali, yellow (Pepper Joe) - 3
PDN x Bonda Ma Jacques (F5 Trippa's cross) - 3
Aji Amarillo (F5 self selected) - 3
Rocotos/Manzanos/Cabe Gendot (self selected) - 7
Orange Bhut Copenhagen (Refining Fire) - 2
Aji Limo (Peruvian 2015) - 2
Scorpion, yellow (F5 self selected) - 3
Aji Lemon Drop (Tradewinds Fruit) - 2
Scotch Bonnet MoA (Trident Chilies, John) - 3

Numbers refer to target number of plants
for season 2017 grow. Annuums go into
Germination chambers in March.

Thanks, Charles - luck holding so far, except for
these two Scorpions.  At first I thought heat burn from
the T5HO lights after transplanting, but these are the
only two plants that show this, so I am skeptical  of that.
I noticed the leaves showing something like BLS.  Both
of these plants are from seed from the same pod, as is
one other scorpion.  The third has shown no signs of the
leaf damage, and the two Scorpions from two other pods
are clear, as well, so I am ruling that out.    I have isolated
the two offenders for now and will see how the new growth
develops; it looks good, so far.  If no more problems, then
I'll return them to the fold.

Two pics of each plant:

Did you reuse the substrate?

In many videos I saw cut the stained leaves like that because they are mushrooms ... sweet peppers growers prefer to sacrifice a few leaves before the plant dies

Sounds like having the plants with the spotted leaves in quarantine is the right move. I'm not sure if the spots are due to BLS or burn from being too close to the lights either. Here's hoping they pull through.

That's a bummer Paul...no clue to what the issue is.

Since it is same pod seeds/plants....will be watching your next update on their condition.

hope they recover, nice large leaves and growth look good other than the issue you have.

Hey, Alejandro - The 'un-stained' parts of the leaves
seem to be healthy so I'll leave them for now.  If more
healthy new growth emerges, then I'll prune off the
funky leaves.

Looks more like light/sun scald on the leaves Paul ?
I'm hoping so, Tristen.  If not, that's tolerable, I still
have three apparently healthy 'Cardi Scorpions' left,
which was my intended number to begin with.

Go figure.

Thanks, Rick - I hope I'm just being alarmist.
If they are, in fact harboring BLS, then I don't
mind chucking them, even though I'm pulling
for them to be good and grow out clean

Ooh, sorry about those scorpions. Mine are improving, sure wish I knew what I did.....or didn't.
Sometimes it's just best to wait 'em out, Eric

I think in the end, it's all about the plant genetics as to
which plants/varieties are resistant to those types of
diseases and which respond defensively.
That's entered my criteria list for peppers to grow
 after last season!

The third plant from the same pod still shows
no sign of similar symptoms, Dan.  I'm cautiously
optimistic

You took the words out of my mouth, brother!

I got no argument with genetics! Those Peruvian ajis you sent started secondary growth in earnest before the third set of trues unfurled. The others, including your F5s, finally started to fill out over a week after being topped. I definitely attribute that to parenting.

They are very robust, and grow almost like
vines in this climate, growing very tall. That's
why I have been selecting for smaller, bushier
plants with big pods.

Here are the tops of the Scorpions shown above:

They really look like twins in the top view

How'd that go, buddy?  I'm going to wait a few days
before I do the next half - they are about a week or
10 days behind those already potted up.  The Manzanos
and Rococos will be among the last to pot up.

It went well ;) And I could have waited root wise, but the spacing of the 3.5 pots in the trays prompted the re-potting. Of course room is now scarce  It's time to give away some of the doubles and triples now!

Hi Paul, glad to see that the new growth on the Scorpions looks much better! Here's hoping that's the last of your troubles.

Thanks for checking in, buddy!  If the new growth
looks as good in a few days, I think we'll be okay.
The other leaves were affected practically overnight,
so any spread should happen quickly.  Guess I'm
just gun-shy after last season

That's understandable... fortunately I haven't had to deal with disease yet, knock on wood, but pests are another matter...

Somehow I missed the leaf issues the other day, but I have been very distracted lately. My 2 cents if worth anything, is that it looks like wet leaves burned under the lights. The new growth looks great, so I'm thinking they will be fine. I sure hope so! And I understand your worries after what you went through last season. Setting them aside is a good choice. I found a plant with the dreaded Aphids on it this afternoon. I would love to know how they get into an inside grow? And always on an Annuum. I isolated and hit it with Neem oil spray, and will be on the prowl.

Just for fun   :D

The JA Red Habaneros are leading the pack
regarding growth at the nodes, and setting thick
stalks, thanks to the daily application of the fan:

The F5  PDN x Bonda Ma Jacques is becoming
a striking plant, and the late-germinating sibling
is showing the same traits:
