PaulG 2019

No grow log for the 2018 season other than the Pimenta de Neyde x Bonda Ma Jacques
thread dedicated to Trippa's cross. That one is an ongoing community project going into
second year and a test of the F7 generation. I imagine I will mention it once-in-a-while in
this thread, but the details of its progress will be in the dedicated thread.

I am deciding on a grow list for the 2019 season after growing only Trippa's cross this
season (2018). I definitely have some old favorites that will comprise the great majority
of the grow. I have limited space, so I'm counting on nature to help me make the final
decision. I'll probably start lots of seeds since I'm gun-shy from the poor germination
rates the past couple of seasons.

Here's the pool. Would be nice to be able to grow a bunch of all of them!  I think my
neighbor will shelter the overflow in his yard, but we'll see what to plant and how many
based on what might germinate

c. chinese - 10 varieties
  • PdN x BMJ, F7, white and violet varieties, Trippa's cross
  • Fatali, F2 of seed from Pepper Joe's
  • 7 Pot Burgundy, brown phenotype, pecan shape from 2017 F2 of the 7PB from Windchicken
  • Scotch Bonnet, MoA, F2 of seeds from John/Sim, not high production, but some nice pods
  • JA Red Habanero, F5 of seed from Walk Good/Devv
  • Yellow Scorpion, F7 aka Yellow Trinidad Moruga Scorpion and CARDI Scorpion, from Spankycolts plant 2012
  • Bhut Jolokia, Red, F4, from Spankycolts plant 2012
  • Bhut Jolokia, Chocolate, F3 of seed from Georgia Growhead
  • Bhut Jolokia, hybrid, F2 - I believe it is a  (BJred) x (Pdn x BMJ F1 or F2)
  • Yellow 7 Pot, F2 of seed from Trippa 2013
c. annuum - 4 varieties:
  • JA Red Mushroom, F3, brown phenotype, seed from Refining Fire
  • Pimenta de Padron - Spanish seed, fry up while small and green, throw on some salt
  • Pimenta del Piquillo - Spanish seed, sweet, very flavorful, small stuffers
  • Guindilla - Spanish seed, spicy heat, great pickled, long and skinny
c. frutescens - 2 varieties:
  • Nagahari from Tezpur, India, supposedly very, very hot freebie from Pepper Joe's 2017
  • Chili Costa Rica, F2 (2014) from Hippy Seed Company seed, 2012
c. pubescens - 1 variety:
  • Red Rocoto, F3 of Peruvian Market seed, 2016
That about does it. Seeding time will be here before we know it!

It looks like the 'Greater Tokyo Area' is probably where that 37 million figure comes from, that being Tokyo plus a few surrounding prefectures. But there's apparently a lot of other weirdness about areas referred to as Tokyo. It's not surprising that Japan would manage to make something as simple as "what is Tokyo" hopelessly convoluted.
lol.gif

The actual prefecture looks like it's around 13-14 million. According to that page, which is from the local government, foreigners are about 3.3% of the population in this prefecture. And there are way more of us here than anywhere else in the country (outside of US military bases); it's a good indication of how tough the government makes it to relocate here. It's a good place with a lot of good people, but the racism is palpable sometimes.
Yes, the 37 million figure is for the greater metropolitan area. Still darn impressive.

Woah, another accidental PT. I really suck at this lately

Not much happening with the peppers in Round Two,
except for one Costeño Amarillo seed which has sprouted.
I am happy for that because it is an F3 from a pod sent me
by SoCalChilihead back in 2012. Nice slender, yellow pods,
much more attractive than the blunt variety from NMSU. It
is a 2014 seed, so I have hope for some other old seeds.

Tomato seeds sprouted on day four:

Cool about the Costeño recovery. Hopefully other old seeds varieties will cooperate as well  Looking forward to seeing the Costeño pods now - a bit of backstory always adds to the interest!
There are pics of them in my earlier grow logs.
I'll see if I can find one and post it so you can
see what t hey looked like.

That's great about the older seeds! The costeños do look really good.
so far, it is the only one. It has only been 6 days,
but I expect some annums to show radicles in the
RockWool in a few days.

The original Costeño Amarillo seed came from
PepperLover, I believe. Fernando (SoCalChilihead)
sent me a pod in 2012.

They definitely do!  The longer shape suits them well and with their coloration they take on something of an Aji look.  Thanks for posting them up.  The poblanos look great as well.  This year will be the first in several that I've had a good number of annuum in my grow and I'm looking forward to that.

I always like to have a few annuums in the mix,
CD, just for people to actually eat

The Costeño Amarillo is originally a landrace variety
from Oaxaca, if I dont have my wires crossed. One
of my favorite non-hots.

Looking soooo good Paul!

Every plant is super healthy, the nutes levels are perfect..Gotta hand it to ya buddy!
I think the nutrients I am using are to blame. The
combination of AK FISH and MorBloom along with
the Cal-Mag and Silica Blast seems to provide what
they need. I think the combo is like a 7-11-11.5 NPK
ratio when all is said and done.

Thanks for the good vibe, brother!

In the garage:

I cut the wonkier leaves off the Seven Pot Burgundy.
Seems to have perked up a bit. I measured one of
the leaves - five inches wide, eight inches long! This
Plant has an 18-inch wingspan!

In the greenhouse:

Scotch Bonnett x 7 Pot Jonah. Really great

The Yellow BrainStrain has set a pod.
All the plants are flowering profusely!

In the greenhouse...

The JA Red Habaneros are really
flowering at full speed:

The Chiltepin is growing a beautiful, symmetrical canopy:

This Peruvian Red Rocoto has an unusual
upright growth habit. It was topped twice.

Ooh, that's exciting to see (and I'm disappointed to see there are zero flower-related emoji here :eh:).

I got a WHP extra that seems to be related: Fatalii gourmet jigsaw x Large red Jamaican habanero F1. I'd planned to start it soon... until I stopped and counted how many plants I have growing right now. It'll have to wait a while.

Interesting; my hawk's claw are doing the same REACH FER THE SKYYYY routine after a topping. They're still small, but seeing your picture, I think I'll keep a closer eye on them.

The JA Red Habanero is my favorite Habanero.
Large pods, real heat and very vigorous plants.
The Fatali cross should be awesome.

Thanks for the visit, fellas...

Beautiful plants Paul! Can't wait to see that yellow BrainStrain develop  :fireball:
Me either, MF! It's a first-timer for me.

The pix in the Growdown Thread were just awesome!

Everything is looking great Paul! That chitlepin is crazy.

Seriously need a greenhouse over here.

The Chiltepin seems to like the greenhouse atmosphere!

The greenhouse is great, because I can clear out the
grow shelf in my garage for the Round Two plants. It's
not the best, but for my needs the 6x8 HarborFreight
unit is adequate.

BTW handoff...
