PaulG 2019

No grow log for the 2018 season other than the Pimenta de Neyde x Bonda Ma Jacques
thread dedicated to Trippa's cross. That one is an ongoing community project going into
second year and a test of the F7 generation. I imagine I will mention it once-in-a-while in
this thread, but the details of its progress will be in the dedicated thread.

I am deciding on a grow list for the 2019 season after growing only Trippa's cross this
season (2018). I definitely have some old favorites that will comprise the great majority
of the grow. I have limited space, so I'm counting on nature to help me make the final
decision. I'll probably start lots of seeds since I'm gun-shy from the poor germination
rates the past couple of seasons.

Here's the pool. Would be nice to be able to grow a bunch of all of them!  I think my
neighbor will shelter the overflow in his yard, but we'll see what to plant and how many
based on what might germinate

c. chinese - 10 varieties
  • PdN x BMJ, F7, white and violet varieties, Trippa's cross

  • Bhut Jolokia, hybrid, F2 - I believe it is a  (BJred) x (Pdn x BMJ F1 or F2)
  • Yellow 7 Pot, F2 of seed from Trippa 2013
c. annuum - 4 varieties:
  • JA Red Mushroom, F3, brown phenotype, seed from Refining Fire
  • Pimenta de Padron - Spanish seed, fry up while small and green, throw on some salt
  • Pimenta del Piquillo - Spanish seed, sweet, very flavorful, small stuffers
  • Guindilla - Spanish seed, spicy heat, great pickled, long and skinny
c. frutescens - 2 varieties:
  • Nagahari from Tezpur, India, supposedly very, very hot freebie from Pepper Joe's 2017
  • Chili Costa Rica, F2 (2014) from Hippy Seed Company seed, 2012
c. pubescens - 1 variety:
  • Red Rocoto, F3 of Peruvian Market seed, 2016
That about does it. Seeding time will be here before we know it!

looks like your plants are about to burst with peppers! :metal:
Things are definitely getting to that stage, finally!

There are tons of flower buds on the chinense plants,
just waiting for a little heat from the sun. We should be
making a turn toward more summer-like weather this
weekend, then it looks good for a week or two.

Thanks for the visit, Scott!

its always full of pepper action on your posts.  they're inspiring. :)

Had to do some surgery on one of my MoA Bonnets.
The branches were shriveled looking and really yellow
above the fork.

This one looks ten times better than the other one did,
so I'm hoping  this one makes the grade:

I left a few shade leaves on the victim. I cut it back because
of the two decent looking branches growing out, and a few
other branches beginning to emerge:

Found this little lacewing larva crawling on my hand,
so placed it on my 3-gallon Scorpion:

Hard to see the long mandibles, but they are there.
It's only about 1/4" long.

Last I saw, it was on patrol! Hard to get a pic shooting
one-handed holding the leaf in the breeze.

Nice pic!  This made me think of what just happened to me tonight.  I moved a couple ladybug larva onto the cement of my driveway temporarily while spraying neem on their plant and when I went to pick them up and move them to some nearby shrubs they climbed right up onto my finger, actually turning to move onto it when it touched them rather than continue on the cement (which was a comfortable temp).  Thought it odd that they "sought out" my finger rather than avoid it or be neutral. Seems like your lacewing had no qualms about crawling on a person either.  Maybe they know whose team they're on.

Deleted double post         :eh:    :banghead:

Much better than having your post rejected-to-index, which thankfully stopped not long ago.
No more rejected to index posts for while now thankfully, I'm assuming it's cured which is great.

I have been making series of short posts
rather than long ones and that seems to help.
I am glad it seems to be sorting itself out.

Maybe the ladybug and lacewing larva really
are team players!

Looking good Paul, all the plants are ready to rock! Those Armadillo's just take forever to ripen, but are worth the wait.

Funny aboot the maters, I'll be pulling close to half of mine this weekend..they done!  LB and I have been tied up canning every other night. It gets old...just like we are doing..lol
