I'm more interested in trying the fruit first since it takes so long to grow, I would hate to grow some and then not like them.
I should have worded my original post differently, I was wondering if people had the trees and would be willing to ship the fruit. I can buy the trees from Stark Bros, but they are out of stock until the end of the season. I know we are still months away from their season.
Ah, yeah, around here the fruit starts ripening in September on into October. I harvested from half a dozen or so patches last year and the flavor can vary a lot from patch to patch.
Cultivars provide a more consistently good flavor, but if you can't find any commercial orchardists in your area, you may have to get out in the woods and find some patches. They're a lot more common than most people realize.
You can order frozen pulp year round (I think) from these guys:
This is coming up two weeks from now if you're still wanting to try them and take a little vacation https://www.ohiopawpawfest.com/
I've been there. It's a pretty fun day.
I have about 50 seedlings and a few larger trees. A friend of mine has fruit about ripe and many trees, so may take a trip down to his house in a couple weeks and pick up a bunch. Shipping them they would turn to mush, I'm sure.
