Pepper ID question

I'm growing what was sold to me as a bird's eye chili, from a reputable grower in my area(avoiding names here); and I'm confused because the pods that are developing on it look nothing at all like what I expected to. Now, I'm aware that mother nature can do some very interesting things to fruits based on environment, but this is a completely different shape altogether. Any thoughts on what this might be?

Looks like a hybrid to me, but possibly mislabelled. Even reputable seed companies seem to make lots of mistakes I've had crosses from every seed company I've ever purchased from, and there's a lot
