Pepper shopping in India and Thailand, advice?

Hi,

An ex-boss will be in India and Thailand, a couple of weeks each place, and he feels he owes me (ha send someone several care packages that cost more to ship than what is in them and they feel a bit guilty, who knew?) So, I'm hoping I can get him to send me some pepper seeds.

He might find them packaged for sale, but I'm thinking dried, where he takes the seeds out.

Advice where to find them and what info to get? I'm thinking a picture of the pods, the name, if he can get it, where they are from, etc.

I doubt he'll be off the beaten path much. New Delhi for sure. Not sure where else.

Thanks!

I'd recommend Kashmiri mirch, they're great cayenne-type curry peppers with great color and flavor and low heat.

oh, I missed Thai, get the local Prik Ki Nu, it would be interesting to get those into circulation and compare them to the one being sold at nurseries here :)  There are a few Thai C. frutescens that might be interesting as well, they go by a million names though.

Wow! what a coincidence. My homies daughter is in India right now for a few weeks. She said she is gonna try and bring me some seeds back. She has already emailed back about crazy ass bus rides and little villages with cool markets and spice bazaars. I told her just make sure its all dried and label with name and location. I'm excited to see what she comes up with. I hope your old boss comes up with some cool stuff for ya. Maybe there is a trade in our future, unless they both come back with the same thing  lol.

It is definitely not difficult to find dry chilis in India! I had absolutely no problem finding Kashmiris and Gundur chilis in Ahmedabad. The others (Byadgi and the little cherry looking ones) I can find imported here in US and locally now too, so I didn't bother looking for those while there...
