Pepper Trivia Question

We all (at least I think we do) know that chiles that we call peppers and the common black pepper are not related, but does anyone know why we call chiles/chiliis peppers? I will give you a hint it goes back a LONG time in history. First person to get the correct answer gets to ask the next Pepper/Chile Trivia Question.

chili is short for chinese i believee. some dude named the peppers that ,what he didnt realize though was that the peppers were not from china  im really not sure, lol

Hamburgers don't have ham!

no they dont, haha. they do have beef though. wheres the beef, why is everything i write have some kind of line involved? am i the only one seeing this?

I see it, and it means that you must have clicked on the underscore button. Do you see the U above the reply area? Or maybe you accidentally did something with your keyboard/phone.

Oh, and chiles were chiles before they were first called peppers.

No I didn't. I want to see if someone can tell me WHY they are called Peppers and who is responsible for that.

What Shadowchili said...

Wiki doesn't count!!! WTF? Way to ruin Millertime. He didn't find the Black Pepper he was looking for, but found chiles instead and took them home hoping to pass them off as Pepper since they were spicy. I guess since I didn't specify, Shadowchilli gets to ask the next question.

Ok my bad, no more wiki....

When did peppers/chillies start getting spread around the world for personal growing and or consumption?

Don't believe everything you read.

Peppercorn - This berry is named after the pepper (chili) since it contains a small amount of heat. When peppercorn is ground, it is often called pepper, causing some confusion.

65 million years ago. Did chiles grow then?

I saw the thing about Christopher Columbus on the History Channel.
