Peppers in Costa Rica, wild or otherwise?

Hey peeps,

Heading down to the southwest of Costa Rica on a diving/rainforest adventure. We'll be doing plenty of treks over the two weeks. Are wild varieties of Capsicum native to the country and/or might I find something interesting in the markets?

It'd be really freakin cool to find a wild in the jungle and bring it back to grow out... wishful thinking?

Sounds like a great trip. Best of luck finding some chiles. I made a point of looking for chiles when I went to St. John, USVI, last year. I found one veggie grower, Josephine's I believe, and bought a couple of different chiles they were growing. Dried out the seeds during my stay there. I don't think they're any great find, but I think it's cool to grow them---brings back good memories of St. John.
