I am growing Pequin's for the first time this year. They haven't turn red yet, but I decided to give one a try yesterday. HOLY CRAP!! I can't believe the amount of heat that a pea size pepper has. Yikes! Can't wait till they ripen fully and give one a try.

Mine took a little while but then BAM it was full of ripe pods and they seem to get hotter by the end of season. Nice bang for your buck enjoy!!

Piquin and tepin taste/picante are very similar.

Try some tepins next grow.

I didn't like how piquins turn mushy when ripe. I found they took forever in my climate to ripen too.

I think you must have had a bad variety chilelover. I've never had them go mushy before, and although mine are fairly late season, I get good production out of mine and have picked quite a few pods already
