Pequins are confusing me

I have about 7 pequin plants, and they all seem to grow/flower/fruit at a different pace.

A few of them are producing pods now (about 2 cm long, standing up, dark greenish/purple color). These are the smaller plants. The biggest plant (4-5 ft) is only now producing tiny flowers. Same conditions for all plants (watering/position/nutrients)

I'll get some pictures later, but is there anything wrong with the purple (almost black) pod color?

Nothing wrong they will change I always attributed it to sunburn as they seem to be the ones staying in the sun the longest -- still very piquant great pepper

and by the way 7 Plants!!!! I had 5 last year and I had peppers coming out of my ears and the plant was taller than me at 6'3"

Yes seven... I didn't have much confidence in growing from seed, which means I ended up with 60-ish plants in total That's not counting the 10 plants my wife put there from seeds she got in Tuscany. (they all have a label "Thing pepper").

Thanks, that's reassuring. I guess some chilis do that, and some don't.

The big one not flowering yet - you can see the 6 ft tomato plant next to it to give an idea of size:

Twilights - some of them end up purple anyway:

Cherry Bombs staying green (but not turning red yet):

Habaneros and Carribean hots are waking up as well, already harvested the Hungarian Waxes.

So yes, I'll probably end up up to my ears in peppers - even thoug August wasn't a very sunny month at all. That said, is it the UV that makes them do that? Anyway, hoping for an "été Indien".

Continued.

Your plants are doing well -- Piquins do get very tall and abundant -- I did the same as you last year and not be to confident in growing - the five plants I had grew threw most of Oct and the beginning of Nov. even after a frost -- nice and hot

Thanks! That's really reassuring. We normally get our first (night) frost somewhere in November, so I shouldn't panic yet I guess. :)

Funny, I thought "pequin/piquin"; tiny pods, so tiny plants. Ho hum and durr.

Great looking plants. I really like the purple colors. Some of my jalapenos have been turning that way, Green-Purple-Red

No it's just the chillis defense against the sun.

So, that's why my Jalapeno's are doing that?

Kinda hard to see, but the bottoms of the peppers are sorta blackish color. Otherwise healthy though.

I've seen store peppers like that before, but not many.
