Phenotype or pepper strain

Hi guys, I have a few question about saving seeds of the pepper plant I grows this years.
First, I order Brow Bhutlah Slp from Peter Merle and 4 plants grows and producing fruit, but I notice there are like 3 or 4 variation to the pods. One is like a long and skinny pod, one look like a naga morich, one last one is look like a scorpion with a tail. Then 4 of my ghost pepper plant this years grow out with a tail in the end of the pods, do ghost pepper have tail in the end? So the question is if I save seed from these variation, will next years my pods will come out to be like the parent of something else. Same with the ghost pepper with a tail.

If you don't isolate them, it will probably cross pollinate and you won't be able to save a pure strain. Afaik Bhutlahs aren't stable yet, they need a few more years.
 
Ghosts have tail but is tapered along the length of the pod.

Peppers are harder to cross than you think. Unless you have nice matching keys and locks.

Your plant that you think is x could provide x,y,z pods if not stabilized, even from the "same" seed stock.
 
You save seeds from the plant, not the pod if you know what I mean? It doesn't matter which pod you choose on the plant (unless you have isolated/cross pollinated some of the flowers).
 
If you save seeds from a plant with different pod types you will have different pod types next year. If you want a certain pod type, just save seeds from the plant with the relatively largest number of the "correct" pod type.
 
SLP Bhutlah this years give me 3 different pod variation. Long, wedge shape, and one with a tail like a scorpion. One whole plant of each variation. I save seed for each variation. But when I saw Judy version of Bhutlah, it totally different from SLP, I have no idea why. But I save some seed from her pods, so I could grow them next years as well for the fun of it. But again, the question is if I plant 25 type of the same species how high is the chance of cross pollination?
 
There is no real way to give you a % of how high the chance of cross pollination may be. It depends on factors such as wind, insect movement etc. It also depends on how well the selected plants "mate" together.
 
If i had to guess i would say that you will most probably get a cross or two but there is a possibility that you will get none at all as well.
 
If you had the plants isolated and took pods from those isolated plants you could take the phenotypes you liked and grow those out, selecting the phenotypes you liked each generation. By F6 - F7 you'll be quite stable and able to grow them without worrying about phenotypic variation as much. But isolation is key.
 
In that case i should overwinterize those plant and isolated them next years, because this years i put them along with my ts butch, 7 pod brown, reaper, naga morich. and a bunch other supperhot. From what you guys said, those seed i save is useless then?
 
If you want it to be 100% pure then yes it is useless. I really don't like that term though because they can be used, just not by yourself ;)
 
Who knows man you may have some great crosses made now! If you want to be sure you could buy seeds over or trade with some people who have isolated strains and go from there, but you more than likely will have some crosses which isn't a bad thing. We all love crosses.
