fermenting Pickle Helix Fermenting Spring

I just got these along with my microgreen seed order and thought I would show them in case anyone else is interested. These are stainless steel spring things for wide mouth jars, they hold down the stuff you are fermenting below the brine surface. They can be used with most fermenter lids as long as it is not a silicone/soft type. They looked like a good idea to me.

Interesting!  How soft is the spring action?  It's hard to judge from the picture, but they look to be about 3" tall.  That takes up a lot of space in a jar.  Seems like there would be a lot of wasted space at the top.

They are just under 4 in. tall at rest and about 1+ in. squeezed all the way down. On a scale it took about 5 lbs to push most of the way down but like most coil springs it is progressive as compressed. Less pressure halfway, etc.

This set of 3 was just under $15. High priced rings and lids are usually stainless steel so they do not rust or corrode.
