Piment Bouc

Thanks, I had contacted that seller and they said the seed came from The Bahamas. So Im thinking thats whats known as the goat pepper but I was wondering about the pepper from Haiti

Yeah, I'm pretty sure "Piment Bouc" from Haiti and "Goat Pepper" from The Bahamas are two different varieties...I got real interested in this a few years ago, and did a bit of research. All the photos I could find of the Haitian pepper showed red pods...Every variant of the Bahamian pepper that I've grown were orange or peach-colored.

I would be real interested to grow the legit Haitian Piment Bouc as well...It's too bad Beth Boyd is no longer with us, as she would jump at the chance to go down there and collect seeds...

Very interesting, Ill have to make sure next time Im in Miami that I go to Little Haiti neighborhood and ask the locals for more information on the pepper and where I can get some pods or seeds. Thanks for everyones responses

Excellent plan! Maybe you could try visiting with Carline Phanor, who makes the Men Pa'w line of Haitian sauces there in Miami. I met her once at the Louisiana Hot Sauce Festival in Lafayette; super cool, and very nice lady. She is the legit Haitian real deal...I just bought a case of her "Green Peppa Madness" sauce a couple days ago....

Lol, its not. Its the name for the variety of the non spicy Capsicum chinense from Cuba. Its whats used in Cuban black bean soup and other dishes. The real deal is hard to find even in Miami because of hybridization with spicy peppers. It took me a long time to find seeds of it. A family friend went to Cuba and brought some seeds back with them. Most of the ones Ive e bought in south Florida have more heat than they should for authentic Cuban cuisine. My dad only grows them in his backyard to keep the seed from hybridizing. I havent worked myself up to eating the super hots so I figured it was a good name

Not meaning to hijack or derail this thread (I leave all derailment to the Lady Salsa), but I hope you will have seed to share/sale of this pepper in the near future. :drooling:   :seeya:
