Pinhighs "bit of everything" 19/20

After not posting a glog in about 4 years I decided with the lack of southern hemisphere activity it was time!

My grow is very different now to what it was 4 years ago. I am now bound by lack of space, so my grow is small, but varied.

So my grow list for this year is as follows:

-pimenta de padron
-el oro de ecuador
-bishops crown
-Brazilian pumpkin
-starfish
-numex twilight
-sugar rush peach (long)
-pink tiger x peach bhut
-podzilla choc x
-leviathan gnarly scorpion
-bhut jolokia giant choc
-bhut jolokia Assam raja peach
-Thai birds eye

Second (late) round
-Sherwood's carboruga yellow
-reaper x SRTSL
-Scotch bonnet WHP
-scotch bonnet MOA
-umorok
-Trinidad scorpion moruga yellow
-scotch bonnet WHP 2
-super bhut jolokia JW
-bhut jolokia solid gold x pink tiger
-faria
-scotch bonnet peach
-bahamian goat
-scotch bonnet foodarama
-scotch bonnet Beth Boyd
-bahamian beast red

The early round was started in July and all had sprouted in mid August. I mainly use rockwool and then transplant into either kratky or coir/perlite depending on where I have planned their future (hydro or soil).

Plant out was on the 7th of October. Mixture of in ground, Kratky, containers and modified NFT hydro.

Fast forward to now and the plants are all doing great. We did have a week of 40+ deg celcius weather, but the plants have done well.

Not sure why the pictures are all sideways...

Anyway, plants are going great, the weather is being more cooperative so it won't be long before I'm swimming in peppers again!

Your 19/20 grow is looking nice and healthy.
If it's anything like the year before, you will
have a great season!

Good luck going forward.

Nice looking grow. It sure looks like sunshine would be limited with the fence and all, but the plants sure did produce. Last year's plants/harvest look awesome. Based on those results, you've set the bar pretty high for this year. Best of luck!

Thanks for the kind words. All the best to everyone this new year.

Took the opportunity with a day off work today to do some Fimming on one of my two numex twilight plants that are in some big pots.

Also noticed it had its first chilli

Trying to get the first plant to bush out a bit like the other one. It is super windy in Perth, so bushy is better!

Still haven't worked out why my pictures are sideways....

Bit of an update...

Weather has been great, 33C almost everyday for a week now. My hydro plants are sucking up the water as they start to flower and fruit pretty heavily.

Should be some powder and sauce making soon!!

Your grow is looking great, Nick! Nothing like some
pods developing to keep the interest up! Good luck
going forward into the height of summer!

Wanted to thank you/pat on the back for posting info with the pix! So frustrating to see great pix  with no info!
Hear, hear! Well said.

Thanks guys. Happy with progress so far.

I have been thinking about constructing an experiment with a new hydro system for my late starts. I agree with others that seem to think the smaller pot size may lead to fruiting sooner as well, but obviously not the same volume. I want to start building up some seed stock, so smaller volume is fine.

I'm thinking of running my hydro system, but with much smaller pots, maybe around 5L for the late starts. See if I can get pods quickly. Still some things to think about, biggest thing is where to actually build it... Space isn't great, too many peppers already!!

I'm actually doing this with very small (about 350ml) Kratky bottles to grow out seeds for pheno. My quickest so far, sugar rush peach (hopefully), started setting fruit at almost exactly 3 months; since I pretty much don't know what I'm doing, I imagine you'd be able to get faster results than that.

Bit of an update...

Weather is still great, above 30C almost every day. The plants are loving it, but the hydro ones are going through a fair bit of water.

I haven't been doing much with them. For me this is the waiting stage until I get some ripe pods to process, which won't be far away now.

Now have flowers on all the plants in-ground and fruit on most of them.

Hydro leviathan gnarly scorpion has too many pods to count, with some turning brown already. The size and shape seems to be getting better though.

Quickly learning that baccatums are maybe not for my small hydro space! The sugar rush peach long is getting a bit crazy. Might be getting close to time for a haircut.

Kratky podzilla choc x settling in now and putting out some nice pods.

20200120_170944.jpg

I am pretty excited to see what my favourite chocolate pod will be out of the three I have in hydro. Between the leviathan, the podzilla choc x and the giant choc bhut. Anyone have any experience and some ideas what to do with them? Powder is top of the list.

For something different to finish, have become addicted to making fermented non alcoholic ginger beer. Constant cycle of the stuff on the go at the moment.

Pod production looks great, Nick! Great size and gnarl.

Nice selection of Chocolate varieties. I only have
experience with BJ Chocolate, but the powder is superb.

What are the dark green/purple foliage plants next to
your in-ground plants?

It is a ground cover, Tradescantia spathacea, or moses-in-the-cradle. Spreads quick, does flower, but snails love it... With the exception of the chilli plants, our front garden has a bit of a tropical vibe going on

Update time!

Been a little while... Weather has been hot here. 40c yesterday and 43c today. Plants are going well.
Will have to take some photos of my in ground plants tomorrow as they a bit wilted at the moment.

Soil grow Padron. Looking good, but they are bigger than I thought they would be? Hopefully someone can confirm?

One of my hydro sugar rush peach (long) going mental... Over the fence now and taking up all the space. Finally starting to ripen now though and I'm super excited.

My hydro leviathan gnarly scorpion going mental. Plenty of pods turning colour now too.
20200204_175849.jpg

My other sugar rush peach looks to be slightly different pheno as it's half the height and the pods are smaller.
20200204_180315.jpg

For something different... My ginger beer has been going well. Now trying to make tepache as per Brad from Bon appetites' recipe, except mine has a small leviathan scorpion in it instead of a habanero lol

Short update tomorrow hopefully with my in ground plants... Thanks for reading!
