Yes pokey the holes (i find its easier to melt holes in) that way you will have all important drainage.

I didn't poke holes in mine and they turned out fine. I put about sixty in plastic cups.

I planted about 40 in jiffy cardboard cups. The plants in the plastic cups did much better.
