Plants don't look right to me, what do you think?

Just got them in the mail a few hours ago so haven't started hardening them off. Came in the mail like this...

Just wondering if I should go through the hardening off process and see how they do before worrying anymore or if anyone thinks they look like I need to give them something now. Thanks.

Are there holes in those cups? They may be getting to much water? Have you fed them? If so when and how much? The Bhuts look over watered. That's about it

Didnt see the came in the mail part. My bad. Give em a few days to bounce back and they will be good as new , so to speak

Arrived in the mail today from Refining Fire Chiles, purchased plants from him for the past four years with no problems so I'm not anticipating any this year. Yes there are holes in the cups but I haven't watered them yet, potted them about 10 minutes before taking these pics and the soil is Happy Frog. Was planning on starting to harden them off tomorrow and do it slowly over the next 3 weeks to a month. I fully expect them to bounce back, and agree the bhut looks over watered but figured I'd check with you guys first. They didn't come in a stand up box like they used to, but he sent me smaller plants so it's understandable.I predict a few days with a little sun and they'll start to perk up. I'm just one of those people who gets their plants in the mail and is ready for them to start blasting out pods but I know it's a game of patients.

IMO they look like over watered plant which didn't received enough light. Maybe it's because of the mail, but look at the top, they are looking for light. What I would do is this :
- repot in bigger pots (roots look to come up)
- not water, just spray the soil a little when repoting if the soil is very dry
- give them a lot of artificial light during their recovering and then hard them off

They don't look bad for just having traveled in the mail. Let them adjust to their new surroundings for a little while before you start giving them anything.

.... or before you start hardening off ... they've been launched, being stepped on, dropped, forgotten on a carousel, etc...by Mr. Postman for crying out loud !!! :D

- cut them some slack, let them recoup first

cheers, Al

i got peppers from the same guy, but i picked them up directly since I live semi-close. I got my peppers from him last year as well. I am 99% sure those plants were growing under the sun already, but they were under a 30% shade cloth. try and get the xtreme gardening mycos product that the grower recommends, pot those guys up with the mycos, let them sit in partial sun (or under a shade cloth) for a couple weeks, then do the final hardening off in their final pot or in the ground.

the plants i got from him looked like that a couple weeks ago, now the leaves are filling out and they have grown much larger. the mycos really really really helps the roots blow up, once the roots blow up then you start seeing explosive growth.

Refining Fire Chiles is the greatest pepper nursery I have found in SoCal... and I've personally seen how the peppers are grown. I recommend them because I am a happy 2nd year customer.
