Please diagnose this ailment

Brought a nice apparently healthy plant (Dragon Pepper) from a local nursery.  Couple of weeks after potting in a 5 gallon, there is not much new growth and the leaves are tinging yellow to black on the edges.  Almost like it looks "burnt."

Any idea what the problem is?  Thinking the soil may be too "hot," meaning, too much compost.  Appreciate any advice.
 
Not really very knowledgeable on this but you might want to get a bag of quality potting soil( fox farms, promix,etc) and transplant it and see it it perks up.

A bigger and better pic would help but i will guess a magnesium deficiency. Try a Epsom salt foliant spray and see if it improves. If it does improve, start giving it some Epsom salts when watering occasionally. Next guess would be potassium but since you mentioned compost its not as likely. Good compost should have a fair amount of potassium.
 
How much sun has it been getting and how often are you watering?
 
Plenty of sun, and am being careful not to overwater, but we have had a lot of rain these past few weeks so the pot has not really dried out.  I did re-pot it to a mix that did not have such a high concentration of compost.  Will try an Epsom salt spray today.

problem:
soil humidity level is too high.  too much fertilizer.  this will invite pest and disease.  
 
solution:
no more water.  no more epsom salt.  no more fertilizer of any kind.  let the soil dry completely.  
 
 
Re potting was the right move. If you have used a quality mix with added fertiliser then there is no need for you to fertilise for at least a couple of months. If you have sprayed with Epsom salt already that will be fine as long as it wasn't a strong solution. But the leaves look quite green so doubt it will help much either.

Don't let the soil completely dry out it's not good.. and there's no point given you have already changed the soil. Just water occasionally when the top couple of inches of soil dries out or when the plant starts to wilt. If it's raining then don't water. If the bottom of your soil gets soggy then drill some extra holes for drainage.

Make sure the PH of the water your watering with isn't too high or low. 6.5 is great.

Btw the old leaves won't recover but the new growth should show improvement. Good luck.
