Some members have commented on the phallic appearance of these unopened pitchers...

..and NO i'm not feeding it blondes...

Rotate the pitcher sideways, and this pitcher changes in appearance, from something close to a fly... ;)

Beautiful CP's Doug!

Thanks Kevin!

They really do look like a ..umm.. !

...like a red weiner?....yeah, it gets that a lot.

Very interesting vine. :) Just how far does that "thing" vine?

The pitcher trap is attached to the leave by it's tendril, and in fact the leaf, tendril and pitcher trap are all considered to be parts of the same leaf...a modified leaf.

The vines of a lot of Nepenthes species will grow from between thirty to sixty feet in a jungle canopy, and one species is very adept at climbing trees, but plants are pruned back in captivity.

cool flower doug! nature does some crazy things. i've seen these a few times but never grew them. are they easy to grow?

Thanks Ed! The flowers of these plants aren't really much to look at. People mostly admire the pitcher pitfall traps on these plants.

They come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from...

the ferocious...N. edwardsiana
Nepenthes_edwardsiana_ASR_052007_ta.jpg

to the feminine...N. jacquelineae

There are some easy to grow Nepenthes species and hybrids, and also some very finicky species that need specific growing conditions to keep them healthy and happy.

Cool pitcher plant you got there!

Did you grew them from seeds?

Thanks Siling_labuyo! I am growing some Nepenthes plants from seed, but this tissue cultured plant came from Andreas Wistuba's Nepenthes Nursury in Germany.

Title edited. It was bringing up unsavory ads that also had browser warnings.

Now I have CP envy!

Kevin

Thanks Kevin! If it was any more swell, it would be a permanently swollen priapism...

...guess i'll have to cut back on all that Viagra fertilizer i've been watering it with.

Beautiful plants, wish we could get them here.

Thanks Armac, check out Terraforums since you are in the states.

You'll find members there that can help you out, but as i have already told Souf, this hobby can become extremely addicting.

My son follows your threads on Terraforums, DVG.He is a big carnivorous plant fan. He just won a drawing there and is eagerly awaiting some seedlings to come in. He has a new growlight set up for them.

I believe he goes by jrmc and then some numbers, you may have noticed him?
