Premature Pod Drop and Incomplete Ripening — Inca Red Drop

Orange is the new red?
 
These are from a second or third-year plant.  In prior seasons, the fruit went to a full-on red stage . . . and remained on the plant.  None have gone past this colour this year, and numbers of pods are hitting the ground.
 
Flavour at this orange stage is OK, but it's not as rich, full, fruity, or sweet as at the fully ripe, red stage.
 
Temperatures are hot, but that's nothing new or different in north Texas.
 
Any speculation about what might be going on with the plant?

To my surprise, I can't find any photos of Inca Red Drop.  What I recall them looking like is about like the Brazilian Pumpkin at the side of my feral-pear salad.
 

 
Full red is what I recall, along with more fruit in the flavour profile.
 
Maybe the plant will do better toward Fall.  If not, maybe it's tired, and we'll see if new plants return to form.
