Professional Expertise

So I am not sure where exactly this thread would belong (The Lounge maybe better?), but I got to thinking after reading recent posts in AJ's Glog that us growers may benefit from one another's professional expertise in fields outside of growing peppers. I know there are many, many brilliant people around here in many different fields that could contribute their knowledge (i.e. Construction, Engineering, Chemistry, Web Development, Graphic Design). I thought maybe a list would be in order so that members could easily find the right person to pose a question to. So far I have not seen any posts like this, so hopefully I am not doubling efforts.

For example, next time I decide to build a greenhouse and have no idea how to wire all the electrical components I could refer to this list and find someone that could help me through the process.

As for myself, I am a Cisco Certified Network Professional, my expertise lies in computer networking so I could answer any questions regarding home computer networks, business networks, telephone systems, etc.

That name "theghostpepperstore" is the best!!!!!!!!!! I am a carpenter but never built a greenhouse. I am into economics, not as a profession but more an intrest being it pertains to all fields. Farming is my hugest interest. Well, good luck.

I have a multimedia associates and a philosophy bachelor's degree with a political science minor. I read a lot of philosophy, science, and literature (in the classical sense). I also know a bit about economics and the different theoretical perspectives on it (Marxism, Austrian, neomercantilism, Keynesianism etc.). My favorite field in political science is international political economy. If you have complex text that needs to be interpreted or help with an argument, I could help :) . I also know a little French.

jack of all trades and master of none...

have to add, I have two bachelors degrees from Auburn University...first one in Wildlife Managament (Specialty Biology) in 79' and second one in Mechanical Engineering in 88'...all in all, I have about 13 years of college at the undergrad level...

have worked as...

bag boy
fast food cook
curio shop manager
air conditioning installation (window and central units)
sheet metal mechanic (erection specialist)
small electric motor repairman...mostly electric hand tools, some motors up to 25 hp
research technologist with U of F performing radioimmunoassays in reproductive physiology of swine
game warden
assistant manager of the marina at Port of the Islands in south Florida
night shift clerk @ 7-11
commercial fisherman (during the fall mullet run around the northern part of the 10,000 islands) in Florida (caught 135,000 lbs of mullet in 91 days, just me and Frog, my captain)
mechanical engineer (aerospace industry)

I have always been the type that had to work and too proud to take a handout from the government whether I deserved it or not...I have cut a lot of yards, put engines in boats (inboard), and am NOT above saying "Would you like fries with that ma'am?"....

Great idea! I just wish I could contribute!!

I'm currently a SpEd teacher, and my students lean more to the behavior side of the spectrum rather than the developmental or intellectual side of the spectrum. So, if you have any kids that are rough around the edges, send 'em to Emu's bootcamp!!

My other hobbies are video games and reloading ammo, so I could offer a little help...

I commend you on your last statement AJ. I myself have fallen far off the chair but I feel I have too much pride and ego to sit behind a fast food counter and make minimum wage....I have no kids...lol that is a big part of it. People with kids tend to take anything that can keep their family living. (not that you have kids, I don't know) I think this is a flaw in my part, I just don't seem to be able to shake it. I am slightly inspired by you saying this though AJ....I'll let you know if anything comes of it. lol

Oh by the way, my profession is Heating and Air Conditioning. If you have a problem with your system and need some answers. Feel free to send me a PM...I'd gladly talk you through it. I also consider myself a gorilla intellectual...meaning I don't have any schooling to back it up but I've always had a deeply inquisitive mind. I'm a jack of all trades like you AJ....your list is a little more impressive then mine though.

i'm a farmer with a degree in english literature and the former owner of a screenprinting company... which pretty much qualifies me for the "jack of all trades, master of none" label as well.
