Question about Bio-Dome plugs

I noticed that the holes in the top of the bio dome plugs are pretty wide and deep. I was wondering if anyone who has experience with them planted their seeds in the holes or pushed them into the surface? I'm worried that they won't have enough contact with the grow medium to germinate in the holes unless I push them wayy down.

I was thinking about ordering the biodome off of park seeds web site. I realy didnt like the idea of the plugs.can you use your own soil instead of the plugs?

I suppose you could try to use soil if you pack it right, but the holes at the bottom of the trays are fairly large and the soil might leak out the bottom over time. I've heard great things about the plugs so I was going to give them a shot. I might have to shift the seeds around and see how I can get good contact.
