plant-care Raised bed self wattering garden planter

My father-in-law sent me this article. Looks interesting but a lot more work than the drip line and emitters with a water timer from Home Depot that I was thinking about using for an automated watering system.

The only thing I am concerned about is that it would seem to saturate the deep soil since there is no way to regulate how much water is dispensed.

Your thoughts?

That would be great if you want to build boxes and only grow a limited amount of plants. But if your like me and your trying to come up with a way to auto water 60+ plants, drip line & emitters are just about your only option.

If built right, it will only wic up so much water and the roots mostly don't grow into the wic. I would build as many as my father-in-law would pay for and no more.
