Rats eating my corn

The rats that live in my neighbors trees have decided to start eating my corn. Anyone have any suggestions on controlling them and keep them from getting into my garden? Came across a couple ears of corn totally stripped this morning. I'm not opposed to using poison but I have 3 dogs and have to be very careful. I've killed a few with raw bacon on snap traps but that doesnt really wipe them out. I'm afraid that now they've developed a taste for the corn, they could wipe out the whole crop in no time. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm thinking of mixing a bottle of daves ghost pepper sauce with some water in my tank sprayer and spraying them down. Might work..

Do that (pepper sauce). Though I have known a rat or two that developed a taste for hot peppers. Would take a bite, squeak in pain, then take another bite.

Daves with a couple drops of dish soap like dawn and water. Spray midway up the stalk or just the ears....but remember to wear gloves znd be careful when harvesting not to inadvertently spice up the corn.

Good luck...

Or get a terrier dog. Theydont call them rat dogs for nothing.

I sprayed them last night with ghost pepper sauce and woke up to find even more ears of corn destroyed. It didn't slow them down one bit. They'll probably have the whole crop wiped out in less than a week if I dont figure something out

How big a crop are we talking about and do you have any idea how big the rat infestation is?

Theres 40 something plants out there. No clue how many rats though. At least a few that I've seen going in and out of the tree.

I'm thinking rats must be like cockroaches.. if you see one, Lord help you with all the ones you don't see.
