Recent Status Updates

Where does someone post in the "Recent Status Updates" column that is on the right side of the page.  I see the comment button but how do you post?  I can't find it anywhere.

From your profile page, or click the top of the page, you username, and there's a box. Can also click View All Updates.

So I guess the "What's on your mind" starts a new post.  Thanks
