ROAD TRIP!!

Heading off in the next couple of days, from Brisbane to Melbourne and return for the family Xmas thing.

It's about 2000km one way, so I got the extra big bag of Jelly Babies, snakes, a box of cola drink and about 1/2 a kilo of spicy jerky!

Just gotta pack the dog, the esky (=cooler) and tidy up the house. My wife doesnt enjoy the road trip, so she is flying, allowing me to drive free of nagging and comments on the obvious. (e.g. Oh, there's an antique shop. Did you see that tree back there? Sky looks blue.)

I'll visit such exotic locales as Nerrandra, Moree, Dubbo and West Wyalong. Must pack hot sauces to make roadhouse food better...

Hey Ringa if you are planning on heading to Neils lemme know and i will come and say hi.
Get ready for endless doggy farts if you feed him that jerky

Best wishes for a safe and event free journey mate.

Ah bugger. Good for you really as the inland has stuff you would have never seen before. Like sand, red dirt, endless roads, mirages, heat heat heat, natives, hey wait there WHY are you going that way?

Thanks PF, plan on driving at the speed limit, resting frequently. I'll probably take 1 1/2 to 2 days.

To avoid the heat, I'm planning on leaving in the early evening, drive for 5hrs, sleep for 5hrs, then drive until I find a good spot to swim the dog and rest up though the heat of the day, continuing on in the afternoon. First part of the trip should be Kangaroo free, so I won't have to worry about them until the second day.

Get one of those kangaroos whitles from a 4x4 store or similar, would suck to hit one of those varmits!

So I can go see The Dish of course!

Seriously, it's shorter, flatter, less busy and more 110km/h speed limits than either the Pacific Hway or the New England Hway. Also, less towns and caravans.

BTW, I have seen most of outback NSW and Victoria before, and red dust is quite tasty, er, except when behind a cattle truck!

Ah ok understood, i might have to try that route myself someday. The more 110kmph (read 160kmph) roads the better!

Sounds like fun......I agree with the inland route, it's faster and more relaxing!!!

I also agree with Lord in saying that Dubbo zoo and the Dubbo gaol are 2 really good sites........and from someone who lived in Moree for a time, DON'T STOP THERE!!!!!!!!!

Put it this way i have a friend that years ago was travelling across this great land and went to hand his rifle in to the cops at Moree for safe keeping for the night (a .222). The cop asked where he was staying and he said that they were staying at a local motel, the cop quickly handed the rifle back and said "here, you might be needing this". True story!!

have a safe and fun trip/holiday.

since you guys are talking about hitting some roo's with the vehicle, & then the talk of native species are protected (different thread)

can you take the roadkill ? I'm talking about if you hit it...so you know its still fresh. well as long as there still some useable meat left on the roo.
hey get your vehicle damaged might as well get some steaks out of it
