roadhouse's 2010 first year grow thread

Got a few peppers planted in some pots out front today. Planted a Chocolate Habanero in a 15 gallon pot so it has plenty of room to grow, a Bhut Jolokia and Naga Morich each in a 5 gallon pot and two Twilights in a 7 gallon pot. I think that is it for my first round of plants that will be going into pots. I have about 20 potential though from my next round of starts which are now about a month old and one month behind the first, so probably just one of each plant then there are another round of even later starts including 7 Pot Jonah, 7 Pot Brown, 7 Pot SR, Red Orange and Yellow Rocoto, Golden Habanero, Trindad Scorpion Yellow, and Devil's Tongue Red. That makes for about 19 more plants if I do one of each variety, yikes. It is going to be hard to find places to put the 25 pots!! :D
 
Another mistake for me. Of course I plant those few outside and then go to a baseball game yesterday with all my plants outside and it ends up being 90 degrees, and then again today. Thankfully I am home today so I brought the peppers back inside but those others in the pot are stuck to fend for themselves. Hopefully they don't die and manage to bounce back. The Hab Choc is looking real sad. Damn...at least the weather for next week is looking better 70s straight up.

More plants planted today. 85 plants so far. Still waiting for 12 more from CCN that are supposed to arrive from CCN later this afternoon, which will most likely be planted on Friday in order to give them a couple days rest from the travel.

Looking forward to seeing how those Cajamarca's turn out for you. I have some in the seed stash that I'll be growing next year.

What kind of problems do the local wildlife present?

Thanks everyone. Patrick, as far as wildlife goes I think my main concern is going to be all the deer. I could see them being a help though as long as they don't completely destroy plants. I hear a pruning from them can lead to some explosive growth. Other than that I'm not really sure what might come up since this is my first year. Hopefully nothing too terrible!
 
looking great Roadhouse! its going to be an awesome year for you. Are you using the black tarp to control the weeds or to retain more ground heat?

Primarily to control weeds but was also helping it could keep in some heat. Seems to be doing that as the soil feels rather warm, not sure on the exact temperature right now, I will have to stick my digital thermometer in it and find out.
 
Everything is finally in the garden! 97 total chiles and 6 watermelon plants for the hell of it.

That is quite the collection of plants roadhouse, I'm jealous. This is my first year as well, I started out just wanting to grow a few Bhut Jolokia plants. I was late on seeds so I ordered from CCN...they require a 12 plant minimum so I got several other varieties, gave my mom and few and had about 6 plants I kept. That 6 turned into 15, then 20, and now about 25 plants, nearly 20 different varieties, plus a couple roma tomatoes and some basil and cilantro. Way more than I ever planned on growing. It is definitely very addicting.

Unfortunately I didn't know anything about fatalis, datils, trinidad scorpions, or 7 pot when I started and now it's a bit late to do those this year. I may go visit the Chile Woman in Bloomington sometime this week and see what she has left though. Hopefully I can get some purple tomatillos and a few of those superhots I don't have. :D I wouldn't mind making some purple tomatillo salsa in a few months. Some salsa morada. :)

Really? How big are they going to get? Should I get rid of them? Of course chiles are the priority and anything that gets in the way must be DESTROYED. I didn't know we had such a chile specialist so close! Might have to use that as an excuse to go back down there!
