RocketMan 2014 - Resurrection

Wow, first growing season in the new house and I'm totally stoked for this one. Lots of prep work still to be done but there's plenty of time to get it done before plant out. So, here is a pic of where Pepper Row will be going in:

D94DFA0C-B99C-4B8A-982B-79DE489D9ABE-8559-00000C4E05B54911_zps3cffd7c1.jpg

I'll be coming out about another 18 to 24 inches from the fence. The brick line will move out to the new edge and the Ivey will be kept cut back to wher it is now so the fence doesn't show through, she who must be obeyed has made it known that she doesn't want to see it :)

I'm still working on the list and as these will probably be in for a while I'm actually thinking about rather a short list using the peppers I use most often in sauces but can't get locally like Fataliis and planting 3 or 4 of each.

The other, non-pepper stuff will be growing in the big bed at the end of the row. We'll be putting in raised beds there but first I have to remove this bast@rd:

Here's what I did with my maple stump. My son and I drilled it full of holes. (2" auger) and made a triple high raised bed over it. Only problem is it sinks every year, so we keep filling it with compost. Nice looking house and pool.

Which types would you be spacing widely?

Sorry, what I meant is if I have 3 Fatalii's planted first I'd space say 36" and start the Bhut's. I was thinking it would make it simpler to note the different peppers I'm growing especially as my little ones like moving the ID tags around on me, little jokers.

Bill, your new home is just beautiful.  I am very happy for
you; couldn't happen to a nicer family!  You will have so
much fun!  Don't listen to Devv, go full bore!  JK, brothers,
you know what to do, Bill!

Can't wait to see your awesome garden, my friend!

We'll, looks like either the mic is clogged or there is an issue with the last software upgrade. I tried blowing out the mic and doesn't seem to have made a difference. Might have to try using the ear bob and see if it helps. In the video I'm saying that I'll be coming out about another 18 to 24 inches from the bricks and all the way down the fence line. The area at the back is where the veggie garden will go in. I have to remove that stump and then we'll build some raised beds.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend :)

This weekend I’ll be starting my seeds for Pepper Row. I’m going to be growing 3 plants each so I’ll probably start 6 each and keep the best ones. I can get Jalapenos and Habaneros easy enough locally so I’m going to grow the ones I can readily get. List looks like this so far:

Fatalii
MOA Scotch Bonnet
Jamaican Hot Chocolate
Douglah
Red Savina
Thai Short Hot
Jonah
Butch T
Primo

Then there will be some Ornamentals at well that will go into baskets around the Pool
Bolivian Rainbow (changed)
Black Pearl
Cayennetta, yeah not an ornamental but it grows great in baskets.

If I go 24” between plants and 36” between each variety then this will cover 81’.  So it should just about cover the whole distance from fence to where the big garden will start. If it comes up short though I’m still thinking about what else to put in. Maybe a White Bhut or White Habanero.

Hope y’all have a great week!

Wow! Which are your fav's?

Looking extremely good Bill! I still think you should nitrate the stump and burn it out... after the scorching your neighbor got when he tried your last batch of sauce I doubt he'll be poking his nose into your backyard again. Set your grill up next to the stump for cover and smoke some peppers when you're doing the burning. Since you're planning on putting up raised beds anyway, you'd only have to burn it down flush with the ground, then you could put it out with a bucket of water. Just sayin' ;)

Good luck with your 2014 grow, and hope you and your family have a Happy Holiday and a new year filled with joy and health. Cheers!

Rick, I looked carefully at all the different ways to get it out and while using the method I picked will allow me to have it down to where I want it in a weekend. The Nitrate method would take a while and I can't afford a stump grinder right now, saving for the rental on the sod cutter.

Thanks Rick, I hope you and your family have a joy filled and safe holiday season, and as they say in Korea Mashi-go chuk-ja!

Ok, so I should have checked the seeds before posting instead of just going by my list. I'm having to change some of the ones I want to grow for some that I actually can find the seeds for. I probably do still have the seeds but with the move and receiving some of them while in transit or after just having moved in, I cant find the MOA Scotch Bonnet, Primo or Jamaican Hot Chocolate seeds. So, here's the new line up, oh and I changed the Ornamentals I'm going to slip in grow in hanging baskets in the pool area.

1. Bolivian Rainbow - kentishman
2. Black Pearl
3. Numex Twilight - kentishman
4. Fatalii - pepperlover
5. Thai Short Hot (Bird)
6. Red Savina - Pic 1
7. Butch T - Pic 1
8. Jonah - Pic 1
9. Douglah - Pic 1
10. Jamaican Red Scotch Bonnet - Pic 1
11. FDA Scotch Bonnet - Pic 1
12. Jamaican Brown Habanero

Nice grow list. I hope the move in is starting to settle down. I know the wife and I lived out of boxes for a while. What are you soaking the seeds in?

Thanks, yeah we were out of boxes for almost a month. Now it's a funny memory.

Seeds are soaking in just plain ole water. Last time I did it I had near 97 % germination and no helmet head issues
