I've been hankering to make some new sauce lately but the holidays at work have kept me busier than a 3 peckered goat, today I decided to try my hand at making a Dr. Pepper based BBQ sauce to go with the pork roast I bought to make some 'que tomorrow.
Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups Dr. Pepper (I used Dublin Dr. Pepper)
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/4 cup fresh minced onion
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon basil
and 1/2 teaspoon of Crystal brand hot sauce
Pour it all into a blender and set on stir for 2 minutes
Results:
It's a tasty little sauce with a nice tang but no heat, I dipped some honey ham in it and it seemed to compliment the ham nicely. I mainly made this sauce for my mom and sister to eat tomorrow since neither of them care for hot stuff.
Later tonight will be Round 3 where I try my hand at a Big Red and habanero based BBQ sauce
