S.Labuyo's 2010 grow log

Hello all!

I'm kinda new to this forum and I also grow chili peppers just like you. I'm located in the philippines so peepers here live longer because we don't have winter here. I had started several varieties during the start of this year but unfortunately most of them died due to the dry spell that hit of country, only a handful survived. thank god that the dry spell is over and i just started planting last month all over again.. most of my seeds where sent to me except for the indigenous cultivars.

here is my list(not really that impressive compared to you chili masters):
siling labuyo (indigenous here)
siling haba (indigenous here)
siling lara (indigenous here)
siling bilog (indigenous here)
long slim cayenne
golden cayenne
trifeti
ancho
peter
medusa
hot banana
inferno
golden bell
bhut jolokia red
yellow scotch bonnet
pequin firecracker
shishito
takanotsume

so far most of the are still in the plantlet stage, only a few reached their maturity due to the dry spell.

i just wanna ask were to get the exotic varieties of peppers both nuclear and ornamentals?

wish me luck guys.

most folks in the states pickle the hot banana peppers to preserve them then slice them up and add them to their food like jalapenos afaik

Well erwin has pods. Ask him to cook some for ya. Hehe.

Banana peppers are usually harvested while yellow. Hehehe.

hey you cook all the time. i mostly cook in school for now. lol.

i'm still in culinary school, ain't no real chef. at least not yet.

I'm on a chile quest for Siling Labuyo thought I better go to the source!

How are yours doing these days? Do they produce all year long in the Phils once established?

My wife unit and I had a fish soup in Bohol a few years ago that had 'sili' in a thin broth, and maybe some of the pepper leaves in there. I have dreams about re-creating that wonderful taste.

Somebody on the web told me the 'Thai Hot' from Seed Savers Exchange were Labuyo. Does the grouping of pods in the picture look right to you? They also refer them as c.annuum but others have said frutescens or chinsense?
Thai Hot at SSE

So I grew them, now 2" tall. These are at 6 wks, do the leaves look correct? You and Franz had good discussion about variations, what do you guys think? If it walks like a s.labuyo and burns like an s.labuyo, is it? :hell: I would like to get an authentic wild one but since its my first time, will settle for a close runner-up!
