Scuba_Steve's 2016 glog

I have been going since the 14th of Feb, but have not really posted any progress, so here is a bit of catch up on my grow this year.

I started all of my seeds in a 12 hour soak in a KNO3 mixture.

The seeds were all transferred to 2oz condiment cups.  I placed a cotton makeup pad in the bottom, and sprayed in a little water.

After that they went in to a DIY Incubator.  This is simply a storage bin with a 4" hole cut in the lid, with the top of a dehydrator placed on top.  The dehydrator was hooked up to a temperature controller that was set to 87F.  The temperature probe was also placed in a condiment cup, and sandwiched between 2 wet cotton pads.

After they popped, they went into 48 cell 1020 trays.  Each 48 cell tray is divided into 8 sections of 6.  For the most part, I planted 1 variety in each section of 6.

I built a shelving unit out of 2x4s to hold these.  The lights I used were 3, 120w Ocean Revive aquarium LEDs.  Each light lit 2 trays.  They were placed approximately 15" above the trays to ensure they fully covered 2 trays.  The shelf was then draped with panda film, which is a plastic tarp that is white on one side, and black on the other.  Unfortunately, I did not take any pictures of this setup.

Also unfortunately, a few complete blocks of 6 died when I let the trays get a bit too dry.  2 of the varieties I lost were considered to be "staples" to a grow in my opinion.  Reapers and Red Bhuts.  Other than that, everything else pulled through just fine.  Those couple were the runts, so they could not handle the dryout like the slightly larger plants could.

They stayed here for about a month and a half.  Around April 1st they were moved outside.  I only had to bring them in one night due to low temps.  A few leaves got a little sun burnt, but all in all they managed very well.

Bump me please.

Well my img host is having issues tonight apparently, so I am going to have to upload these to THP instead...

Ok, on to ground prep. I just moved into a new house, so I had to re-establish a garden space. I ended up choosing a stretch about 36 feet long next to my house and fence. I tilled this section about 3 feet wide. I also made similar sections about 18 ft long alongside the house for my wife's tomatoes as well as 7 bells. Then another 45 ft section running perpendicular, down the far fence line for all of our other veggies.

After tilling this, I trucked in 3 yard of compost/pine fines/dirt mix from a local landscaper. I mounded this in 2 rows. Then I mixed in 10 cu ft of perlite, and about 20lbs of coffee grounds I got from Starbucks into the rows.

I ran a mainline for my drip irrigation down the center, and branched off 1gph pc emitters to each future plants location.

The orange things you see coming off the spigot are venturi injectors.  I will be building a DIY 2 part fertilizer injection system shortly.  I will also be adding a hose timer as well as a short piece of hose to help tidy things up.

I then tacked down some weed block fabric over the rows, and cut holes for the emitters.

Today I finally planted out.  I must say, that everything seems to be growing very slow for me.  When I picked up the plants though, the root system was very well established.  I am hoping that they will take off now that they are inground!

Top Row: 7 Pot Brainstrain Chocolate, 7 Pot Brainstrain Yellow, 7 Pot Brainstrain Red, 7 Pot Jonah.  I had a little mix up with 4 varieties.  The last one might be a 7 Pot White...
Bottom Row: 7 Pot Brainstrain Orange, 7 Pot Lava, 7 Pot Borg 9 Red (might be Bleeding Borg 9 Red), Aji Mango  That is all of my potential mix ups.

Starting now, you can see that my rows apparently got wider as I approached the fenced portion of the plot.  My fabric was not wide enough.  I just said screw it and went with it how it was rather than buying and laying more fabric.

I still have room for another 3 plants, which I will probably get at Home Depot.  That is unless I can manage to find someone with an established Reaper, Bhut Jolokia Red, or Cumari do Para.

And that's about it for now!

How's the garden doing?

Eh, nothing good to report really. Everything except for the store bought plants really got stalled for some reason. For almost a month they didn't seem to grow at all. There are still some that look this way, although most have just begun to start growing.
