I would not reccommend ordering from Seedman.com

I had a 20% or less germination rate and a third or more of the 18 varieties turned out to be cayenne. What a disappointment caring for something since march then finding out it's the one pepper I really dislike. After notifying the company, the owner insisted I did something wrong but agreed to give me a full refund.

He stated hundreds of each seed packets were sold with no complaints so it must be something I'm doing. Short of gene splicing, I seriously doubt I caused all those plants to genetically mutate into cayenne. Seems a bit fishy. Also, I grew 3 "different" jalapeño varieties from him and they are all the same pepper. Same pod size, same color, same growth rate, same flavor.

You didn't happen to purchase these seeds from eBay or Amazon by any chance? Reason I ask is because I had a very similar experience. My germination rate was alright, but the peppers I ended up getting were nowhere even close to what was described. I didn't bother to contact him since I wasn't going to raise a stink over $20, since I spend more than that in a week on soda lol.

OK, gotcha. The name sounded vaguely familiar, so I had to ask. I'd stick with the recommended ones. I've had some good experiences with several that post here on the site, and granted, you may pay a few more bucks for seeds, but with the folks on here, you get what you pay for :)

wow, 20% germ rate? with cayennes you should be getting 100% germ rates. I bet even those cayennes are piss poor plants with low production.

btw, seedman is an awful name

You have to be very careful where you get seeds from, especially if your buying anything rare such as most of the super hots.
You can end up wasting a lot of time and energy and it is very disheartening when you find out something is not true.
It has happened to me with Bhut Jolokia before and it really sucked.

I would ask for my money back.

I reviewed all of the comments at Seedman. The common criticism was very little communication.

This to me says no one is at home or cares.

Based on the diversity of the seeds at Seedman.com I highly doubt the seeds 'Jim' purchases are tested.

And there within is probably the problem.

He's likely a reseller and is not aware they won't germinate in addition, if he's just a reseller ? clearly you can get them from a source that is actually growing these - OR where the grow wild.

Highly unlikely he's growing all of those plants - so who knows what you get.

VERY SORRY to hear you got Cayenne.

I think I might come up with a term 'Cayenned' to represent when you don't get what you paid for.

TWO Reasons people get cayenned I figure- one is laziness and simply not caring if it's the right seed, and the other is KNOWINGLY selling cayenne as some super hot - as some people do and then pack up in the middle of the night and close up shop - or just WAIT for Ebay to close it for them.

Alas- BEST advice ? stick to recommended sites.

I'm new to this - but those two you have ZERO chance for fraud- and SLIGHT chance for human error to which I'm sure either of the two would correct it.

I am SURE there are HUNDREDS of people on this site - that have sites - ebay or amazon or even just selling RIGHT HERE - that are reliable too -I just don't know them yet.

There is a classifieds section on The Hot Pepper- it is MOST AMAZING

I don't know how to get to it though

It's not on any of the links that I can see

I have to use a bookmark - and I seem to have lost it

If anyone knows how to see those classified where people are selling peppers and things - please tell me !

I really like that part of The Hot Pepper- not that I HAVE any money right now -lol

oh yeah...this was one of the first suppliers I bought seeds from in 2007 and was sorely disappointed at the germination rates...I probably spent 60 or 70 bucks and germination rates were about 30%...way below acceptable

Here is a link to my winter 2007/spring 2008 germination percents by supplier. Keep in mind, this was my first year starting from seed and really didn't know shit from shinola...

Man, I wish I'd seen that earlier! He replied to my email within an hour and said he even grew some of the same peppers and had no issue so it was something I had done but he'd refund my money(sounds like a tactic to cover his butt so word doesn't spread; blame it on the customer and make them feel like they'd embarrass themselves and think to order again since he's a "nice guy". He didn't reply to my second email or even notify me if he's credited my money back, I think he's upset I know there's no way anything I did turned the plants to cayenne and that I germed them properly because all my pepper joe superhot seeds sprouted and within like 6 days. I was bummed the Last few months because I thought something I did had screwed up the germ rates, so thanks AJ for sharing that; it makes me feel much better.

Now it's been over a month, I still haven't gotten my refund check... Either it's lost in the mail or somebody stole it. They want to wait a few more weeks to see if it shows up, because their bank charges them a $30 fee to stop payment on a check. Doesn't seem fair to me, it's not going to show up i'd call that lousy customer service; I feel like they're waiting for me to forget about the whole ordeal so they don't have to do anything. If somebody else cashes my check they're just going to say oh sorry looks like you took payment, we can't do anything, the business between us is over.

I had the exact same results. Bought around 20 varieties last year and had maybe 5-8 germinate at all. I thought it was my fault and ended up trying again with seeds from pepperlover.com with much better results. Seedman has a great website with some really cool specialty seeds but I think because they do not focus on any one type the quality suffers

Our they seriously trying to call a yellow mushroom a super hot what's more they riped some of Judy's(pepperlover) description form her site they have a picture of the yellow mushroom by it as well here how they have it.

This variety is excellent when pickled in combination with the red version of mushroom, and mixed with colored bell peppers.Very aromatic pineapple like flavor with clean heat without any bitterness. This kind of behavior tells me all I need to know about seedman.com. I will stay far away from this clown. I will stick with Judy and the other reputable vendors here on THP.
