seeds Seeds and heat.

Hi guys
I've started my seeds about 2 weeks ago. I've got s grow tent to help. The issue I seem to have which I'm not sure about, the temp in the tent t wanted to keep at 31c....
I don't seem to achieve this, it's either 26, or if I turn on the large heat mat it's 35.
None of my seeds have shown an appearance.
Am I trying too hard.....
Cheers guys

Give the seeds some time and they'll most likely show. Depending on the species and freshness of the seeds they can take a few weeks to a month to sprout.

Hi welder
The ones I'm doing are
Criolla de cocina
Jimmy nardella
Candy cane
Aji lemon
Cubanella
Banana
Pepperdew
I don't have a choice, but what's frustrating me is the time and temp..
I'm trying to give them the right environment. My impatience doesn't help.

Thanks

I think we all get impatient. I've lost track of the amount of freshly sprouted seeds I've killed accidentally by digging in the cells wondering why they havent sprouted yet. Oops.
Of your list i've only grown Cubanellas. I've seen anywhere from 3 days to 2 months over the last few years. 2 weeks after I moved my cubanella outside last year, which was about a month after it sprouted, the other 2 seeds that were in the cell decided to sprout. Sinilarly this year I have seeds of all sorts where a few sprouted right away, and 3 weeks later the rest are starting to.

Hi welder
What do you think of the 35c temp, too high of what.
I heard this guy talk about germination in 10 days, so I have some seeds in wet paper towel, inside a brown envelope, in a warm place... well see what happens..

Had to convert it into freedom units. 35c might be too hot, might not be. I've seen soil temps of 40F -100F work, so around 4C to 37C. I may be wrong here, but I feel soil/moisture contact is more cruical than germination temps. I only use my heat mats when I want to try the soil out quicker when I overwater, but that's just me and my winging it approach.

Hi welder
Ohhh, I don't know, I think I'll take them off the mat and just manage the temp in the tent.ill aim to manage a 27.

I have checked the scientific literature a while ago and if I remember correctly, there was a sharp decrease in germination above 26 - 28 °C or so, depending on species and variety (and probably seed quality). That probably just represents germination speed. Also, i think the actual measured temperature swings were usually not stated, just the thermostat settings.

According to NuMex's CPI, higher germination rates occur between 70*F and 80*F, about 21C to 27C, and faster germintion occurs between 90F and 100F, or about 32C to 37C.

Hi welder
So are we saying 32..37 is the target temp....
So what I take from that is..
Higher means more seed success.
Faster means faster growth but maybe less plants...
21 seems a better target.

To be honest, not a clue. I honestly would not worry about the temps as long as it's not freezing. We can't know the perfect temp the genetics of each seed wants to determine sprouting. Patience is more valuable here.

Way too high IMO!! Your choice is quite simple: risk cooking your seeds in a hurry or wait a few more days safely for successful germination!
