Sick plant - help please

I bought this plant at a market 2 weeks ago. I repotted it into good potting mix and then put it in a semi-shady spot, as the sun here is pretty strong at this time of the year. It's been getting a bit of rain, not too much, and if the soil is dry I am giving it a drink (about every 3rd day the potting mix seems dry).

As you can see, the leaves are curling, there are some small holes in the leaves and the margins of some leaves are quite yellow. When I got the plant, it had 3 fruit on it, 2 of which were mouldy inside, and the 3rd was green. When I picked it, it was good. The plant had flowered profusely when I brought it home, and there is green fruit all over the plant.

I have moved it out of its protected spot for the day, as normally it would be in danger of being knocked over by some dogs.

From what I've been reading on this forum, the likely culprits would be (in no particular order)

a. not enough sun
b. not enough water
c. caclium/magnesium deficiency
d. transplant shock

Any help?

Cheers,

Too much water (you can tell because you are starting to get alge/moss on the surface of your dirt) combined with transplant shock.

I think it has transplant shock is a big yes, but you also want to check carefully for aphids or spider mites.

To help with the transplant shock I would give mine a little kelp fertilizer, and you might want to water this one a bit more. As long as the pot drains well, you can't over water. If the roots haven't spread out much yet, the root ball may be getting dry before the rest of the potting soil.

Yeah I'm with Pam you need to water throughly until water comes out the bottom then wait a day and see if the leaves don't bounce right back. That is what my plants all look like when I come home from a vacation in the summer. The plant also looks a little wild having so many branches growing out of the dirt.

OK, so a good soak, then leave it a day or so. Look for mites/aphids. If found, treat with mild detergent spray. Kelp fertilizer.... Should I try a weak liquid fertilizer or some superthrive? We have a liquid thing here called Seasol, I think that's either fish or seaweed based. But I'd have to go buy it.

Yes, the plant is leggy. It was the best of a bad bunch, when there was no alternative available to me (until my own seedlings get big enough.)

IGG, good thing to spot for, but I just had a closer look, and there doesn't appear to be any moss or algae in the pot. Also, I put the pot thru' a bleach solution, and the potting mix is/was from a fresh bag.

Thanks

RS

Thanks for the know-how!

I gave the plant a big drink until water came out the bottom of the pot. (Sorry about the sideways pics.) This is the before:

Much happier plant!

While looking for aphids and mites I came across this bug. Seems to be a caterpillar or worm of some sort. Any ideas? Remove it and its kin now?

I'm glad the plant is doing better, but I don't recognize the worm. Must be some upside down Australian thing.
