Skullbikers 2019 Indoor/Outdoor NOT PEPPERS Glog

Time for an update on the indoor(basement) veggie grow. The 4 gal container of coir with Daikon Radishes in it is starting to get bushy.

The Conan Kohlrabi are continuing to grow bigger, as noted by the soda can.

The Gourmet Kohlrabi and Sweet Baby Romaine coming right along. Getting a fairly large salad every other day from the Romaine. I will start pulling leaves on the Bibb this next week.

Here is some Bibb lettuce planted the same time as the other with no extra lighting, only natural light in a south window.

Time for an update on the basement garden. Here are the Daikon Radishes about a week ago.

I pulled my Daikon Radishes yesterday(the ones in a 4 gal. container with 100 % coco-coir)probably about 2 weeks early but they were growing into the lights and I have a few other things going on. They didnt turn out too bad and I see that it is possible now. I think I could grow some monsters in a garbage can!

I decided to harvest all of my basement grown Kohlrabi. I started the other day with the Gourmet Kohlrabi. They didnt do as well as I would have liked but I believe I had them too close to each other and the faster ones shaded the slow ones and made that problem even worse. Anyways, here they are.

Now for the Konan Kohlrabi, same problem with some plants covering others. But they still did OK. I had two underbed totes with them in, 6 planted in each tote. Here is the first one.

I think I will use all of these in my next batch of Kimchee.

Quick question re: the lettuce in the Walmart under bed totes... I know you've been harvesting the older leaves, but if you hadn't, would you say the 6 gallons is enough to get them to maturity, or would you need to tweak conditions, i.e.,prune roots, replenish /replace nutes, etc.?

All you have to do is add nutrients to maintain 1 1/2 to 2 inches deep nutes. DO NOT let the roots go completely dry on the bottom. From experience I have found they usually will not revive if that happens. I was adding about 2 quarts a week when they were mature. I also had them a bit too crowded.

It looks like fresh Asparagus will be on the plate by the weekend.

Getting a few nice fat ones now. The first couple of rows have been in the ground about 4 years.

Oh, I do LOVE  me some fresh home-grown asparagus!  As a kid, that was my job...cutting the asparagus every morning.  I was always amazed how fast it grew.  Nowadays, hubby doesn't care for it, so I don't even try to cook it.  In my book, there's not a lot that's much better than fresh steamed asparagus with hollandaise or just plain grilled spears with nothing but some good olive oil and S&P.
