Slashroot's 2012 Pepper Season - Superhots under LED

This will be my first real year of growing peppers. Last year I only had a few types of pepper seeds that I brought with me from China. This year I'm wanting to grow 25 different types if everything goes to plan.

Here is the list:
7 Pot
Aji Amarillo
Bhut Jolokia
Cayenne
Chili Pyramid
Chocolate Habanero
Congo Trinidad
Demon Red
Devils Tongue
Fatali
Filius Blue
Goats Weed
Gobincho
Scotch Bonnets
Numex Twilight
Peperone Fuego F1 Hybrid
Prarie Fire
Red Habanero
Red Manzo
Ring of Fire
Tepin
Thai Dragon
Trinidad Scorpion
Tropical Heat
Zimbabwe Bird

Starting to get more pods on the other plants too now, not only Manzano/Rocotos :)

Curious how long until the Manzano pods start turning red. Couple of pods seems to be done with growing in size.

Here's some pictures.

Plants look amazing especially the size of those leaves how are your soil pots doing.

Thanks :) Honestly it's mostly my Trinidad Scorpion that has huge leaves, way bigger than my hands but it still haven't put out flowers. It enjoys growing more than producing haha

The plants I put straight in the ground in my greenhouse seem to have stopped growing, guess they just need some time to adjust to the different type of growing condition.

While the plants in 5 gal pots inside the greenhouse seem to be growing great, getting bigger by the day :)

Thought I would post some of my soil plants outdoors. Honestly I've been hiding them from you guys since they aren't that good looking.

Weathers been great the last week, warm to be in Norway. Low 65F and High 75F and full sun.

My plants are covered with dust / pollen from the trees around here!

Here is the greenhouse plants first.

They're looking good man. Goats weed is a cool looking plant!

Thanks for your comment. Totally love the look of that plant, it does well as decoration hehe

Here's the rest of the pictures. All the gray stuff is sunburn.

Looks really good! The plants are going to recover soon from the sunburn. ;)
I have not heard about Tropical Heat, what type is it?

I would like to find out myself what the Tropical Heat is. The seeds are from thompson morgan, labeled as Tropical Heat.

This is what's written about the product on their page:
Chili Pepper Tropical Heat is a tantalising mix of Caribbean Habenero red and orange plus the yellow and red Scotch Bonnets. All fruits are green prior to ripening and have a very hot, fiery pungency at maturity.

Looks like a huge science experiment.... I love it!!!!!! One of these days I'm gonna give hydro a try.

You sure should give hydro a go. For me it's more simple than soil where you can get so many problems!

Quite some time since I have updated, haven't been much excitement lately. Today my first ever superhot pod has ripened!

It's suppose to be a 7 pot but I find it quite different looking than other peoples pictures. Any thoughts?

Here's a picture from yesterday:

And from today!

Your set-up is awesome, Slaash. Hope those hydro units work out for you.
Just can't bring myself to go wet, yet. The in ground plants look great.
Once they get roots spread out, they will really take off. How deep are
those watering tubes/cans next to your in-ground plants?

Continued success, bro!

Honestly my hydro system could have been built in a much better way. Close to impossible to clean the reservoir the way I built it.

Would be better if they all used one shared reservoir and not 3 independent ones.

I dunno if the watering tubes was a good idea or not, only me going creative. Thought that could prevent different types of rot/pests by keeping surface dry most of the time. They are only about 4 inches deep. Only water like once every two weeks even though the soil is very light and drain good. No edema problems out there so I'm not worried really :)

The plants in the greenhouse seem to have doubled in size since the last picture was posted here. The outdoor DWC peppers are doing terrible, too cold for them to grow, only produced pale green growth. Moved them into the greenhouse like a day ago so hopefully they recover!

Seems like the watering cans are a good idea.
Keeping the soil dry on top solves myriad problems.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about your set-up.

Hey Slash-
Interesting system you got "growing on" there- that 7 pot/d may be a red one- and sometimes the yellows throw a red and an orangish color offspring. The plants are lookin good, and so are the pods.
Have a good one-
Dave

This is an awesome pic slash

Thank you, think I will make a dish with it tomorrow. First time tasting a superhot, excited!

I'm sure it's a red one, just when the picture was taken it was a bit orange in color. Today it's like pure red :) Suppose to be pure red 7 pot but it reminds me of other strains of 7 pot.

No kidding - looks 3-d!

Can't get enough of staring at the pod, brings fear and excitement lol

Haha, you will conquer your fear when you eat that baby! You might
not be so excited, though. Just kidding. It should make whatever dish
you whip up a real winner!

Thought it was about time to post an update of the soil plants in greenhouse. I had to move the DWC pepper plants inside the greenhouse, they were suffering from the harsh and cold weather. Even though the bucket lids are made of thick white plastic, algae grew like crazy. So I improvised some reflective covers, hopefully no more algae problem. Still a bit worried that light hitting from the side would cause algae too.

Just over the night I got a huge ants nest under the ground. Any reason to remove them? They sure make the soil full of air with all those tiny underground channels.
