Snake repellent

We've had success using mothballs (naphthalene) on our farm. There's a product called Snake-A-Way (also contains naphthalene) that's supposed to work but mothballs are cheaper.

I was thinking that he should fill his sox up with the balls! Also wear cargo pants and fill all the pockets up, maybe carry a back pack filled with them too.

Other than a repellant, I'd recommend wearing a pair of high, thick rubber boots or even waders, either under or over your pants legs (depending upon the fit, of course.) Carry a knife, both for a) if you should happen to get bit, you can cut open the bites to get the venom out, and b) if one does manage to sink its teeth into the rubber boots, it may not be able to get them out - just cut off its head at that point.
