So how bad should I feel?

I made some 7 pot pepper powder over the weekend and like we all do, I took it to work to share. My shop is well versed in the heat of the things I bring in and this was no surprise.

My coworker Valentine took a (very small) pinch of the powder (he's had hotter :liar: ) and turned a bit red... Moments later said his stomach hurt.
My other coworker Aaron wanted to try a pinch but his hands were dirty so I put a pinch in one of those little Dixie mouthwash cups.

When Aaron brought the cup to his mouth he exhaled and the powder blew right into his eyes!!! :fireball: :fireball:
Aaron was quickly escorted to the eyewash by another coworker and just as he turned on the water I noticed Valentine stumble over about 5 feet and tackle the Ice machine head first! Valentine apparently went into shock and passed out, luckily for him somebody was next to the ice machine and was able to break his fall to the floor.

All I could say when the shop looked at me was "So, who else wants to try some?"

- Both are fine now and there were no serious injuries, needless to say I'll not be bringing in any more hot stuff for a while. In the past both have tried my hot sauces and even a pepper or two without incident. While I didn't trick them and fully explained what they were trying, I still feet bad and offered to buy lunch tomorrow.
 
I would say you should only feel bad if you hurt your companies productivity for the day. I try not to feel too badly when willing adults try my wares and hurt themselves. It always sucks when I hurt someone by accident though. My wife has been capped several times now along with my dog.

Nah, it was the last 10 min of the day, they're GI's anyways so it's not like they were doing anything, lol.
 
You should be ashamed of yourself! Who does that and doesn't take a video!?


Did you at least break out into laughter once you realized everyone was gonna be ok?
 
My question would be from a liability standpoint. The guy who about passed out (or did) by the ice machine? Peppers may cause a world of perceived pain, but passing out isn't normal - he could have an undiagnosed medical issue. If he wasn't faking it, I wouldn't offer anything else to him, in case it turns around and bites YOU in the butt.

I agree. I'm very careful who I share things with at work. I have 2 guys that work for me that I've let try pods/powder/sauce that I've made or bought here. My concern is if the wrong person tries it, and they get pissed off, I'll end up in the principal's office(figure of speech). I wouldn't feel bad. As long as there are no repercussions on your part, they are both adults, and were fully aware of what they were being given.
 
I agree with Geemee. If that much heat this time caused him to pass out, especially since you said he had something as hot or hotter in the past and was fine, he may have an underlying condition. You may have brought something to light he needs to get checked out, but I am guessing if he went to the Dr. and explained what happened the Dr. would just tell him it was the capsaicin.
 
My plan is to bring a bowl of peppers into work after next years harvest and put a sign on them that simply says "HOT". And then setup a webcam that records the kitchen area...
 
I don't grow any supers, but I have some stuff that's too hot for the average American palate. When I bring extras in to work, I leave them in the break room with a note (in English and Spanish) including the heat level. It never occurred to me to set up a webcam, though...hmmmm.

Trying to hand out the extras on a one-to-one basis is always kind of amusing. I'll go from office to office on my way out of the building in the afternoon, and all the Anglos are flinching as if they're scared even to look at the pods, and then I'll run into a crew of blue-collar Mexican guys coming in for an evening shift and all my peppers are gone like *that*. We white folks are wusses! :-)
