Unfortunately, I will have to agree with the Frutescens crowd on this one. That species is the only one I know of that softens like that.
C. bacatuum, which means berrylike, is soft too. You can pinch the skin right off the wild ones I have growing. C. bacatuum and C. frutescens both fall right off the calyx. There might be some other species I'm not familiar with that are similar. I've crossed some C. chinese with both species this season. Can't wait to see the results next season! There are no C. annuums to my knowledge that are soft like these two other species.
Did you try this over the summer? I'd be interested to know if it was a success or not because I've read that you can't cross a [background=rgb(255, 244, 228)]frutescens with anything but another [/background][background=rgb(255, 244, 228)]frutescens. Don't know if that is true or not, but I have read it several times. [/background]
It will cross with C. annuum, C. chinese, and, C. baccatum .
