Sold at store as Habanero...

Thought I would post this here as I was told this may not be a habanero. I bought it from a local grocery store here in southern ontario. It was sold as habanero peppers @ 1.99 a lb. I grabbed 4 of them, 2 red 2 green. There were no orange in the pile. Anyway, I'm new to "heat" so all I can say. Is it hit more in the throat, and made me sweat..., tasted great. Any thoughts?

nice... how's it taste?

Nevermind... saw what you wrote...

definitely not a regular orange hab or scotch bonnet, which regularly get mixed in with habs.... not sure what though

it is not a scotch bonnet, but that was my original impression. a member posted a picture 2 years back with a very similar pod and i remember commenting on how square and uniform the pods were, almost bell pepper in shape.

it is a form of habanero, i just can't remember the post that posted pictures but they were exactly the same, square pods with no dimpling.
bonnets have that dimpling effect or the curling under impression.

The whole pile of then were "perfect" shape. Almost like mini bells. I honestly didn't find them insanely hot. However there was very little "membrain" attached to the flesh. The green ones on my sill are starting to turn orange, I will keep you posted.....

Also, sorry for all my typos and grammar errors. I'm on my iPhone and can't find the EDIT button...

Scoth bonnets are pretty doggone hot (hab type heat) and have an intensely fruity flavor from what I remember. The only other thing I can think of that would be bell pepper shaped would be cajun belles, but those are only about jalapeno hot, if not a bit milder, and taste exactly like bell pepper. But they're not as fat as the pods in your picture.

Well in heading back shopping today, I will buy all the red ones they have, going to try to make some hot sauce tonight,,, still a long long time until I can use my own peppers, might as well start experimenting now...1.99 a lb,,, can't go wrong

Whatever they are they are delicious. I grabbed 20 of them, most looked exactly like the ones in the picture, but 10/20 were a little "less uniform" and the walls were very thin. Cut up all 20 and had my first attempt at hot sauce.

Holy shit is it good. By far the hottest sauce I've tasted. 20 peppers and a big sweet red red pepper made 3 of these bottles. I can't wait for my buddies to try it!

Home made hot sauce is the best! My buddies aren't dumb enough to try my sauces any more. Any time i pull stuff out there like "screw you I'm not trying that". Maybe i need some new friends. Lol
