I think Snails/slugs, he thinks small animal from near by canyon. what do you guys think?

That soil is way to dry for slugs. where is this?

Are there slug trails?

San Diego. I have an army of snails in front of my house. I tried to grow plants out front last year and they got shredded by snails.

My other thought was Hornworms, but it seems too early in the year for that.

And I'm not a fan of soaps, they seem to create more problems that its worth. I only say sluggo because it will just be on the ground around the pots.

I had dam tree squirrels munch mine last year. I'm in so cal too in the foothills above Pasadena.
OSH has a couple different kinds of repellent. I used the Bonide and they stopped.
Yours looks similar.
I'd come out in the morning and see whole branches stripped sometimes. Other times a few leaves chopped in half.
My wife finally saw a squirrel in the garden one day. I was really going nuts about it ( pun intended lol).
I even thought for awhile it was birds and bought one of those fake owls.
Did the slug thing, diatomaceous earth, etc...
It's the squirrels... The evil squirrels..
LoL
