I dunno But the first pic looks like it has some Type of mold on the stem...

maybe try pulling the mulch away from the stalk a little bit. i know that can cause problems

Had the same problem with a couple of mine to, it's indeed some kind of mold so I threw them in the bin.

I will do a little of both I guess I'll remove the mulch. (From las year). And start cloning
