Soybean Oil?

I have a jalapeno that's been pretty heavily infested by fungus gnats. I have some maple syrup and water in a Coke bottle trap and I've been using Mosquito Bits for about a week now, but the gnats are moving into pots with seedlings in them. I want to empty an arsenal on these sonsabitches. I've heard that diluted canola/rapeseed oil works well as an organic pesticide, but what about soybean oil? Anyone ever tried it? I figure a 1:1 ratio of soybean oil and water cut with a little dishsoap should do about the same.

Will it work or do I have to go to the store tomorrow?

Update: I tried it. Impulse got to me. Good news is that the bugs seem almost entirely suppressed! I'm surprised. I'll continue adding oil and checking for larvae but it seems like a good soil application of the stuff works. No need for foliar... Thanks to you guys who posted.
