Spicy Chickens MMXIV Glog - Hobby Grow

This years grow will be somewhat [SIZE=18.18181800842285px]disappointing comparatively speaking, my wife and I decided last night to only plant the circle raised beds this year.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=18.18181800842285px]Each bed holds 12 plants conservatively X 20 will only be 240 plants; all Reapers and for no particular reason; just to have something growing.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=18.18181800842285px]Some of you may have seen my thread in the Lounge about a barn conversion and this will take priority over the dedication it take to grow our normal thousands of plants. ;-([/SIZE]
 
We did plant 2548 reaper seeds, we will [SIZE=18.18181800842285px]transplant[/SIZE] what germinates and try to sell locally anything over 240
All of the plants will be topped and stripped this year again, so if you are interested in that stay tuned.
 
Once again I may not have time to respond to all of your replies, but you will know I read them with a like. Please no Like trolls. lol
 
Seeding by hand this year with only one seed per cell, limited on seeds.

To save space and heat we stacked them [SIZE=18.18181800842285px]until[/SIZE] they pop.

[SIZE=18.1818180084229px]Well the season is definitely coming to a close but surprisingly we have had only a really light frost about a week ago and nothing in the forecast for another week or so; which is extremely unusual but we'll take it.  :woohoo:[/SIZE][SIZE=18.1818180084229px] [/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=18.1818180084229px]As you can see the plants are still flourishing but not a lot is happening on the bottom side, quite a number of pods but not to much color, not even enough to bother picking. :mope:[/SIZE][SIZE=18.1818180084229px] [/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=18.1818180084229px]The weather has been awesome for the most part, sunny and 70's expected for the next week. [/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=18.1818180084229px]​Went out last night to take some pics but the mosquitos just about took all my blood and the nats were licking up the leftovers, didn't stick around long enough to take any real good pics but as soon as she cools down.  :P[/SIZE][SIZE=18.1818180084229px] [/SIZE]

Thanks, plans are to rip em out and turn it back into lawn, be much easier to maintain the yard. :rolleyes:

Considering your climate, I'd say you knocked them dead this season. Reapers seem to take forever to set and produce, But you'll have plenty judging by the first bed.
 
Hate to hear you're "disassembling", you always have such a nice lush grow.

Hello everyone.
 
Well the few peppers picked off one of the raised beds have been cut for seeds and dried, here I am rubbing the seeds off the placenta, they almost fall off. lol

Ground the placenta and tubbed it, might put these up for sale here; not sure. ;)

Tubbed up the seeds as well after screening for size, I only keep the best of the best.  :party:

[SIZE=18.1818180084229px]We have had frost now for a couple of nights, plants are all wilted and a dark forest green, starting to see a lot of red out there although I haven't taken a close look.[/SIZE]

Hey, Jeff.  Sorry I haven't been here in a while, but I am never disappointed when I get here.  
Except to hear that you might be shutting your commercial grow down.  I hope you will
maintain a hobby grow and post a pic now and then so we can continue learning from you.  
Also, I hate to see you dismantle those circle beds.  They are just too good to lose!  It wouldn't
hurt them to lay fallow for a year or two with a little cover crop so you could use them for
whatever purpose when you are ready.  
 
But then, who am I to talk - I'm not doing all the work!
 
BTW, at what temperature do you dry your pods?

Hi Paul, good to hear from you. thank you for the kind words and words of encouragement.
 
As far as drying, we do all at room temp with fans and dehumidifiers, this helps to retain color, flavor and the seeds are still viable.
