STC3248, Just Another Grow Log! Holiday Harvest!

Still waiting on the supers...but the rest are sprouted and under lights. This will be my first attempt at supers. Fingers crossed. I am so lost in the labels. My 10 year old is responsible for the artwork on the cups!

My favorite part was when the heat really kicked in and all you could say was "here" "now here." I loved it. and I know how that feels. It's weird how you can't think because it's so hot. Glad you didn't give up the THP, would've missed your posts!
My boy was new to the filming thing as is painfully evident in the video, but he really got a kick out of it. He was also running around the house as I was doubled over with stomach pain an hour later trying to find the tums for me! He's my little champ. My older daughters would have just laughed and asked for the keys to the car.

First off. Tops?

Second, just to be clear, I didn't mind your son's video work at all, really. He stayed with you well. It was the fact that all you could really get out were very short, quick commands as you were dealing with the pain. It just made me chuckle, because when I've eaten something that hot I just can't talk. And it's because my mind has trouble formulating the words through the pain.

Finally, those purple bhuts look great. I'm really thinking about those for next year.

Great pics!

Omnicolor Will ripen red. It Will have yellow, cream and purple, orange, and red pods all at the same time. Immature pods taste fruity, and floral. Red pods taste like tomato kinda. Not your typical ornamental flavor. Very juicy pods.

i dont blame your son for laughing.. hahahah id be laughing too.. he's just prolly used to you looking like that after you eat peppers...

with your plant sickness hope its not the soil.. my sick plants only so far have only been due to forasium wilt... things will look better for you....awesome looking plants with numerous pods!!! hope to make another trip to your place

Damn. Been about a month since I checked in here. Damn. High drama, hot pepper eating, good growing, mystery plant issues - this GLOG has it all! Everything is looking really good for the most part! And, whatever isn't you seem to be very proactively removing. Great work man. I'm digging the alternative containers too. I have some plants that still need to find a summer home and no more space (that my wife and son will let me use) for peppers.

Man, nice progress with your garden!
Shane I went through a bag and a half of popcorn just running through these updates.

Cool photos and videos......enjoying every bit of it

Greg

Just got caught up on your glog. Sorry to hear about you losing plants, but at least you were on top of things, and caught it before it hit the bulk of your plants.

Is it just me, or do the plants around the pool seem happier than the rest of them? Seriously though, that Purple Bhut is gorgeous, leaves, blooms, pods, everything about it is just beautiful. I'm not even at Bhut level tolerance yet, but I want to grow one next year, just to look at it!

Thanks for sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly!

Congrats on the top brother! The purples are really rocking it. They are making is so easy. Both my inground and container plants are really making it look easy for me! They're not the biggest plants out there, but they sure are making up for it in production! That pod was absolutely insane! Worse than either of the Brains I've eaten. Once again the taste was terrible. They taste worse than the brains too. Like dish soap infused with pepper spray.

I will have a ton of seeds so hit me up later in the season and I'll send some your way!

Prod, thanks for sharing! They're really putting on a ton of pods, but just now starting to get any color out of them! Tempted to grab a few immature ones to try with dinner tonight.

I didn't really blame him either, made him laugh even harder when I said that.
I don't know where that problem came from...insects, soil??? All I know is I still have my fingers crossed I caught it in time.

Easy to get behind on mine I know...I update way too much. Trying to contain myself these days and only update when I got some good stuff to share. Those containers are great! Probably about 50 gallons of soil in the big one and 35 in the small one. They will be a little limited by the spacing a bit, but I think there is more than enough room for the roots. I tried to select plants I though would be smallish and I could train to drape down the sides. They aren't cooperating other than the Peruvian White Hab, Tepin, and Pequin. The rest are pretty out of control! That was part of the intent, to not be able to tell where one plant starts or stops. Totes work well also...and the trusty 5 gallon buckets! I may build another raised bed to put plants in once they fill their 5 gallon shoes..

Man, nice progress with your garden!

Glad you enjoyed it Greg! Was really happy when you FINALLY updated again! Few issues and scares, but for the most part they're doing me real proud. You complimenting me on my photos is an honor since you're the photomaster!

You know I waited way too long to start yanking them out, I'm really stubborn, and attached to them. It was the right call, just hope I was quick enough to limit the damage.

The pool plants are beating the rest to the punch production wise, but the ingrounds for the most part are MUCH bigger. Has to do with root space. They grow until their roots either fill the available space, or the plant reaches max size and while in grow mode production is limited. I've been giving the inground plants some compost/worm tea with a tiny bit of fish ferts and haven't started feeding the containers yet but plan to give them their first drink this weekend. The tea made a huge difference in growth rate. My inground Bishops Crown has grown about a foot in the past few weeks! The inground plants are slowly starting to set a few pods, once they get a little traction they'll probably put out twice as many as the containers.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! Will be back in the barracks for a couple days...got some more pods to show off this weekend!
Shane

By the way...could have sworn I had 2 yellow 7's...but in my frustration the other day I couldn't find it??? Lol, found it, I had been thinking it was a chocolate hab for a while. So I have spares on everything. Maybe I have too many if I am losing them??? Nah

 OMG that is so funny. Losing track of your plants.
That really is a great situation to be in! But you did find it,
so I guess all's well that ends well!

yeah - if its been that long, I think chances are good whatever it was, is not in your soil.

feel like you dodged a bullet there my friend.

Insects are not a good option, but unlike wilts caused by soil infections, they don't last 5-7 years. So I think they are better in the long run.

PLUS this gives you a chance to start a few more plants... If you are looking for a new variety hit up my seed list, and I'll send you something you are interested in :) I could send some amish sweet apples, they are mild (less than a jalapeno I think) so your wifey might like them. Big red pods, or pretty much whatever variety or five (or 10) that you want that I can spare :)

hope your plants get over whatever they have man. Sorry but I have to laugh at the video...been a few times when im at churchills and had a couple of beers, forgot to eat that day and then proceed to try a pepper and my results tend to be just like yours in that video lol.

Those Purple Bhuts got me excited, as my Strongest plant is a Purple Bhut. They just seem hearty.
Do you think its a bug in your soil or like a bacterial infection? If its a Bacterial infection you may be able to give it some H202.
I don't know what I'm talking about, but H202 worked for a little infection some of my young plants got.

Are you getting Horn worms? I am getting them in droves on my tomatoes, sunflowers, and Purple Beans. I did have a few bites on my Choc bhut x yellow 7 but I don't think he liked it, as it seems he has moved on.

Did you look at the roots?.......

Oh, and uhm, you didn't realize you are in it for life(THP)... too many of us in the fold have your adress. If you try to leave ,we will come for you...bearing buckets of Barrackpores!....Kapisch?;)

...and I'd have to come get that Beiber wig!....crap, no emoticons at this bandwidth....

Great lookin shots of the Purple man, and funnel the energy you expend on Fatalli on the rest of the brood!
My 2nd biggest plant is the Barrackpore...so I may be in trouble, cuz the pods are getting huge-couldn't watch the vid due to bandwidth-but I'm sure you handled it like a champ. HOOYAH!

Holy cow, Shane! Over 32K views. As many as JCR and I put together!
Are you paying folk to look in :D
Awesome bro, and deserved of every look. You have a great grow
and log going; has provided me with lots of pleasurable (usually) viewing.
Except for the bac spot!
Kudos, my friend! Sounds like Glogster of the year, wouldn't you agree, Greg!

Yeah...not a proud moment! Damn glad to find it...my tags are faded and hidden under the plants. I may get a white stencil pen and label the pots.

I sure hope so...got home too late to check on them last night. I'm staying home to finish building a retirement gift I am building today so I will have time between gluing and clamping sessions to have a good look at them. If I started anything it would be some Biker Billys...which I didn't see on your list. Really have enough going on, but I scored about 15 fence pickets I may turn into some more raised beds...I'm already losing track of them and I am talking about starting more. May just pick up some annuums tomorrow when I run to home depot.

I know better than to eat them on an empty stomach, but I was in self punishment mode. I usually at least have a glass of milk before hand. I hadn't eaten anything all day and I sure payed the price. Glad you got a chuckle out of the vid, I don't take them too seriously because I know there's no way to look cool with one of those in your system.

The plants are both really impressive! They were my fastest growers for a while, but have fallen behind size wise. They're sure making up for it in the production category! The Black Naga and Infinity are going to be big producers too. No horn worms, but I have been finding some small green inchworms.going to do a big pest inspection today. Not sure if H2O2 would work or not, but I did consider burring a pile of hot coles in each hole to try to sterilize the soil. I am just going to wait it out. Hopefully I am through with it.

I did take a very close look at the roots. I rinsed them and they looked great. Very well developed and nice and white. They were damn near as deep and wide as the plant was tall. There were a couple roots near the surface that were a bit yellow, but overall normal and healthy??? Was thinking I might find some grubs feeding on them, I found several huge grubs when I was doing prep, but no dice. The little plant is still kicking I will try to take a pic of it today.
We'd have to take it to the mat for the Bieber shirt, and I warn you I already took down my two teenage daughters over it!
That purple makes this look easy, and almost snaps great pics of itself! As far as the Barackpore like a champ...once you find some bandwidth you'll see. Didn't look or feel champish at all! :flamethrower: :fire: :censored: :fire:
I never intended to leave THP too many cool grows and great friends on here. At that moment I just thought a break might be in order. If it would have spread to more/all of my plants I would have been a wreck. Was so glad to see Jeff and Brandon back after their tragic losses.

I really don't know WTH is going on with that! Mind boggling that that many folks have looked in here. Very flattering...maybe its because my Fatalii went viral??? As far as glogster of the year goes, I really learn a ton from folks like Jeff, Greg and AJ but also from some of the other newbies like you, Rick and Melissa. So many great glogs. I try to get through them all, but I am stuck in my content trying to catch up so much due to my work schedule. I know I am missing out on a ton of great grows and info. As far as the 32k+ views vs Glogster of the Year...I have been told by tons of folks over the years that size doesn't matter. :shame:
Having a ton of fun, and hopefully a ton of pods soon!

Thanks for looking in everyone,
Shane

Hi Shane, I thought you'd be a good one to ask... what's the tastiest Baccatum you've ever eaten? I've decided to try to grow at least one next year, wanted to get a sense of that quantity in people's minds before doing it. We have a short enough growing season that I want to pick the right one(s) so I don't waste a whole season. Cheers

First year growing any. I have eaten an Aji Limon and an Aji Omnicolor, both tasted similar and DELICIOUS! I have both of those going as well as a couple Bishop's Crowns which are massive! The limon is a late start, but is growing faster than anything else out there. They are all supposed to be incredibly prolific. My Omnicolors each have about 100 pods on them, and I expect the same from the Limon. I will keep you posted on their progress and send you pods and seeds from each. My Wild Brazil is supposedly a Chinense, but the flowers, leaves and growth habit say Baccatum to me, so I will throw some of them in to!

I have some pics uploading, be back in a few!

Few Annuums to update,
P1010500.jpg

Purple Bell #1 Loaded again!

P1010498.jpg

Purple Bell #2 not to be outdone!

P1010499-1.jpg

Dunno what color these guys will ripen...but they're not a purple! Same plant I harvested the HUGE one off of. Pretty sure it was going to ripen yellow, but I pulled it for dinner last weekend. The flesh was nearly 1/2" thick!

P1010501.jpg

Poblanos are loading up again as well!

P1010502.jpg

Another one...

P1010503.jpg

One of my Goat's weed plants, love these guys!

P1010504.jpg

Big Jim already producing...I wanted to start these, but the seeds I got didn't pop. I found these on the shelf at HD and BAM! They are growing like weeds!

P1010508.jpg

Bonnie, this one's for you...Side by side of my two Bishop's Crowns. The one from the pool deck is about a foot shorter than the inground when you subtract for the container and only 2/3 as wide. Same story on most of my inground plants. However the container plants are beating them to the punch production wise. I am brewing up some tea for the container plants first feeding of the season. Have been relying solely on the nutes in the potting soil thus far. So maybe we'll see a growth spurt next week from the pool-boys.

P1010509.jpg

This is one of the two that were labeled Scotch Bonnets in the seed train, but came up with annuum characteristics. I was then told they may be "early" Scotch Bonnets which are a mild Annuum. They turned out to be hot with a distinct Chinense flavor and :hot:   I now think they are either a cross with a SB momma, or more likely a Jamaican Hot Yellow. Two plants...50+ pods between them! I am really liking these guys!

P1010510.jpg

and last but not least...The Lost Yellow 7! How did I miss this guy? Starting to pod up too!

Will post some more tomorrow...Happy growing everybody!
Shane

Man, Shane, I can't believe how fast your pods are growing.
The Purple Bell and Poblanos are incredible, and look very tasty!
I have a few Poblanios about a half inch long, and one about 2"
long, but I'll catch up : ) Don't look back :D

Have a good weekend with your family and plants, brah!

Thanks man! Those bells and poblanos are in the spot that I was most worried about. The ground stays pretty damp there because I think the pool has a leak. (landlord says it doesn't be he doesn't fill it twice a week) Seems to be a happy spot for the plants! I know you're coming for me, but I think we'll both have more pods than we know what to do with!

Once I get some of these ???Jamaican Yellows??? to ripen I'm going to send you a few. I think they're right up your alley! They put on pods real quick and a ton of them, plus they have about the perfect heat/flavor.

Some pics that didn't make the cut earlier...

Another shot of the Long Lost Yellow 7

P1010512.jpg

Side by side of my biggest Pequin and smallest Tepin. The other two are opposite...Tepin big and Pequin small. I think these pequins are a cross with a chinense of some sort. The pods look like small Habs and ripen more orange than red???

and a few nons...
P1010513.jpg

Dahlia

P1010514.jpg

Nasturtium...Thanks Pash! Looks like Mr Dandelion needs a tug!

P1010515.jpg

Queensland Blue Squash...another Pash contribution! (really a small pumpkin) I underestimated their growth a bit. I have Pumpkin vines getting out of control! Gotta give them a trim tomorrow.

That's really it for today I promise!

Shane

Thats really weird - they must be in F2... F1 would be dominate traits only IE RED.

But if Orange is showing through, then your crosses must be in F2 at least.

I finally got some tepins going. I'm not sure if I am starting them late, or early. But I figured what the heck. This is Florida after all :)

How much Chlorine do you shock the pool water with? I wonder if that might be what made your sick babies look so manky? Could be they're just really sensitive to the bleach.
